The Kansas City Chiefs want the explosiveness of their offense back. Over the last two seasons, the once prolific Chiefs offense has catered. Last year, in particular, was a rough showcase, amplified by the injuries ravaging the roster. Despite offseason additions of Hollywood Brown and rookie Xavier Worthy, the team wasn’t able to function as efficiently as they anticipated.
This year, they’re hoping to reverse that trend with most of their contingent back and, presumably, healthier. However, just like last season, an injury over the summer has continued to ail Brown as the regular season approaches. With a Week 1 clash against the Los Angeles Chargers in the balance, what will Brown’s status be for the game in Brazil?
What Happened to Hollywood Brown?
Brown arrived in Kansas City amidst a ton of fanfare. After dropped catches were a major talking point for the Chiefs throughout the 2023 season, the arrival of Brown signalled a potential change in their fortunes.
However, it didn’t come to pass, as Brown made his first appearance in Week 16 due to a sternoclavicular injury in the preseason. At the time, it seemed like a manageable injury given the depth of the position.
But Rashee Rice going down in Week 4 made matters all the worse for Kansas City. This season, though, the need for the former Baltimore Ravens’ first-round pick was amplified by the lingering suspension for Rice.
After it was made official that he would be eligible to return in Week 7 at the earliest, the Chiefs needed Brown to hold down the fort. However, Brown was dealing with an ankle injury in his left leg, tweaked near the start of training camp.
As a result, he did not play in any of the preseason games, a stark contrast to head coach Andy Reid’s game plan of giving his starters meaningful reps. With Rice out and the AFC West as competitive as it has been in recent years, Kansas City needs Brown back quickly.
Will Brown Play Against the Chargers?
A report from CBS Sports brought some good news for the Chiefs, with head coach Andy Reid confirming that Brown was going to be a full-go for the game against Los Angeles on Friday.

Additionally, heading into the game, the wide receiver has shown optimism about his health, claiming he was feeling “really good” before going off to Brazil.
