A Week 17 clash involving the Cleveland Browns, who have won three games all season long, shouldn’t be a marquee affair. But the state of the AFC North has made it so that each game is pivotal in the stretch run of the season. Add in the interest around Shedeur Sanders, and if he can solidify himself as the franchise’s long-term starter, the game becomes must-see TV.
For those in the camp of the second-generation superstar, the first quarter offered a tantalizing glimpse into his potential. As his team went up 10-0 in no time, he even added a touchdown to fellow rookie Harold Fannin Jr. Unfortunately, the score may have come at a massive cost.
What Happened to Harold Fannin Jr.?
An immediate draft hit for the Browns, Fannin has become a superstar on the offensive side of the ball in short order. Leading the team in receiving yards, he’s been a prime target for Sanders since he took over the starting job.
Against the Pittsburgh Steelers, that chemistry was on full display as the two connected on a bomb to extend the lead to 10. However, while making the catch, the rookie tight end twisted his body awkwardly.
While he was still able to make the catch, he came out of the play limping and had to be helped off the field by the training staff. Mary Kay Cabot provided the update from the sidelines, “Harold Fannin came out of the tent, tried some short bursts and went back in.”
However, the news quickly turned sour when Underdog reported on X officially, “Status alert: Harold Fannin Jr. (groin) headed to locker room Sunday.”

Ranking at number 23 on PFSN’s TE Impact, he has been wildly productive in his rookie season. Despite the inconsistency at quarterback, where three different players have put on the starter’s helmet for Cleveland, he has been the one pillar of excellence.
With 70 receptions, which have accumulated 701 receiving yards and five touchdowns, he has been the biggest difference-maker on the roster, at least offensively. Leading the team in all three categories, it seems clear that the Browns have found a legitimate cornerstone in Fannin.
While this season is done for, from a competitive standpoint, he could serve as a career-long threat for whoever takes over the starting quarterback job in Cleveland, potentially from the 2026 NFL Draft.
Coming out of the break, as the Browns held on to a 10-6 lead, the broadcasting crew provided an update on Fannin. Designated with a groin injury, he was officially ruled out for the remainder of the contest.
