Fans rarely get a halftime performance during a regular-season Week 2 football game, but that’s exactly what’s happening in Monday Night’s AFC West matchup between the Los Angeles Chargers and the Las Vegas Raiders.
The game is in Las Vegas, and the Raiders are hosting a major superstar for the show. Here’s what fans need to know about Monday Night’s halftime performance.
What Is the Halftime Show at Raiders-Chargers?
The Raiders announced that Lil Jon will perform at halftime during their Week 2 matchup against the Chargers. Lil Jon is a 54-year-old superstar rapper and record producer with hits including “Snap Yo Fingers,” “Get Low,” “Yeah,” and “Turn Down for What.”
He began his music career in 1991 as a DJ and rose to fame as a producer and artist in the early 2000s. He has created music across various genres, including rap and EDM.
His song “Yeah,” a collaboration with superstar singer Usher, won a Grammy for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration in 2005 and was nominated for three other Grammy Awards. He was also nominated for Best Music Video in 2015 for “Turn Down for What.”
An Atlanta native, Lil Jon doesn’t have ties to the Raiders or the Chargers, but he is an avid football fan and supports the Atlanta Falcons. This isn’t his first time performing for football fans, as he joined Usher at the Super Bowl LVIII halftime show.
Fans can expect a high-energy performance. With the game being played in Las Vegas, the halftime show is likely to be highly produced and feel like a full concert experience.
In addition to Lil Jon’s halftime performance, Michelle Williams, a Grammy-winning singer and songwriter who rose to fame as a member of Destiny’s Child, will perform the national anthem at the game.
Raiders-Chargers Preview
While fans should be excited about Lil Jon’s halftime performance, the matchup between the Chargers and Raiders is equally compelling.
The Chargers enter the game 1-0 after defeating the defending AFC champion Kansas City Chiefs in Week 1. It’s Jim Harbaugh’s second season as Los Angeles’ head coach, and he’s aiming to guide the team to back-to-back playoff appearances. A win over the Raiders would put them at 2-0 overall and in the AFC West.
The Raiders also come in at 1-0, following a Week 1 victory over the New England Patriots. Pete Carroll took over as Las Vegas’ head coach this offseason and traded for Geno Smith to become the team’s starting quarterback.
Both moves have brought stability to the organization, and a win over the Chargers would give the Raiders their first 2-0 start since 2021.
The game kicks off tonight, September 15, at 10:00 p.m. ET with coverage on ESPN.
