NFL Announces Major Halftime Show News for Lions-Vikings Christmas Game

The NFL will attempt to broaden the audience reach of the Lions-Vikings game on Christmas Day with a highly anticipated halftime show.

Netflix announced that Snoop Dogg will perform a special halftime show during the Detroit Lions–Minnesota Vikings game on December 25, aiming to reach audiences beyond NFL fans. The hip-hop singer will join “Snoop Dogg’s Holiday Halftime Party,” a halftime act in the Christmas Day doubleheader, aiming to build on last season’s success.

NFL Extends Partnership With Snoop Dogg With Halftime Show

The announcement of Snoop Dogg‘s presence consolidates the artist’s role at NFL events in recent years. In February 2025, he hosted the NFL Honors ceremony. He was also one of the attractions at the Super Bowl 56 halftime show, alongside Dr. Dre, Eminem, Mary J. Blige, and Kendrick Lamar.

The Vikings-Lions game will be the second of Netflix’s two Christmas games. It will follow the Dallas Cowboys vs. Washington Commanders matchup. The NFL wants to evade this, but the halftime show could feature two teams that have been eliminated.

The Vikings lost their playoff chance before Week 15’s SNF. The Lions cannot lose to the Steelers and need a tie in the Packers-Bears game to stay in contention. The latter game may have less impact if both the Cowboys and Commanders are eliminated from playoff contention by December 25.

Because of this, the Commanders shut down quarterback Jayden Daniels, who ranks 26th in the PFSN QB Impact metric with a C- grade, for the rest of the season after being eliminated from playoff contention, following eight straight losses.

Daniels dislocated his elbow in Week 9 against Seattle, missed three games, returned in Week 14, then aggravated the injury against the Vikings when he landed on his elbow while being tackled.

The QB initially dislocated his elbow in Week 9 against the Seattle Seahawks and missed three games before returning in Week 14. However, the Commanders’ star aggravated his injury later against the Vikings when he landed on his elbow while being tackled.

The Cowboys saw their playoff chances drop drastically after losing to the Vikings 34-26 on Sunday Night Football in Week 15. They could be eliminated if the Eagles defeat the Commanders on Saturday.

NFL Aims To Repeat Success of Doubleheader on Christmas Day

This will be the second straight year Netflix broadcasts NFL games on Christmas Day. In 2024, the premiere featured a doubleheader: Chiefs vs. Steelers, followed by Ravens vs. Texans.

Both games had a higher viewership than the NBA, which usually dominates on Christmas Day. The second Netflix broadcast also featured a halftime performance by Beyoncé in her hometown of Houston. The event was later nicknamed the “Beyoncé Bowl.”
