Green Bay Packers 2026 Cap Space and Re-sign Candidates

With $-4.7 million in salary this offseason, Packers GM Brian Gutekunst will be forced to make some tough decisions. Green Bay’s staff has been exceptionally good at developing talent in recent years, but re-signing everyone may not be feasible.

Linebacker Quay Walker, quarterback Malik Willis, and wide receiver Romeo Doubs headline the Packers’ 2026 free agents. Of the group, Walker is likely considered the top priority.

Walker is currently ranked as the #11 overall linebacker in PFSN’s Impact metric. He has led the Packers in tackles each of the last four seasons since being drafted, and was announced a team captain before 2025. Walker, a leader on and off the field, could see upwards of $15 million a season in a new deal.

While a Walker extension is a must for Green Bay, that is not expected to be the case for Doubs, given the investment in the position over the past few seasons. The Packers spent the 50th overall pick on Jayden Reed in 2023 and the 23rd pick on Matthew Golden in 2025. WR Christian Watson, as well, was rewarded with an extension through 2026. Doubs may look to begin house shopping sooner rather than later.

Along with Doubs, Willis also appears to be on his way out. Willis has been excellent in limited action this season. The fourth-year QB stepped multiple times this season when Love was dealing with injury, and he delivered every time. Willis’s improvisation, arm strength, and significantly improved accuracy are central selling points for many teams.

Sean Rhyan, Zayne Anderson, Rasheed Walker, and Emanuel Wilson have all served as solid rotational pieces as well. With negative cap space, however, Green Bay may look to restructure the contracts of Jordan Love and Micah Parsons, in hopes of retaining its depth.

Lucky for the Packers, those decisions aren’t imminent. Green Bay heads to Chicago today for a Wild Card matchup with the season on the line. If this does turn out to be the final game for Willis, Doubs, and potentially even Walker in Green Bay, the Packers will need everyone at their best against the Bears.
