Giants Star Cam Skattebo Fires Back at Critics After Facing Backlash for Viral WWE Moment on Monday Night Raw

A viral clip led to concern and criticism from some fans who questioned why Cam Skattebo was participating so actively in the WWE bit.

New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo is supposed to be recovering from a brutal, season-ending ankle injury. So why was he getting into a ringside scuffle on WWE’s Monday Night Raw? The rookie, who has been sidelined since late October with an open ankle dislocation, a fractured fibula, and a ruptured deltoid ligament, created an unexpected firestorm after a staged altercation during John Cena’s final Raw broadcast at Madison Square Garden.

Why Did Cam Skattebo’s WWE Appearance Spark Backlash?

The kayfabe scuffle occurred during a high-energy segment after John Cena, Rey Mysterio, and Sheamus finished their match against Dominik Mysterio, Finn Balor, and JD McDonagh.

While comedian Andrew Schulz was interviewing people at ringside, he introduced Skattebo to the crowd just as the WWE heels approached. Dominik Mysterio immediately targeted the Giants player, mocking New York’s sports struggles and taunting Skattebo before shoving Schulz, which triggered the planned confrontation.

In response, Skattebo, who was wearing a New York Rangers jersey and putting weight on his injured leg publicly for possibly the first time since surgery, stepped up to the WWE stars. When McDonagh intervened, the Giants’ rookie delivered a two-handed shove.

Several of Skattebo’s teammates, including rookie Abdul Carter, defensive lineman Roy Robertson-Harris, Darius Alexander, and Dalen Cambre, then joined the melee from behind the barricade before security rushed in to separate everyone.

That on-screen moment quickly led to off-screen criticism, with some fans questioning why an injured rookie would be involved in such a physical stunt. For instance, one viewer on X wrote: “This how you make sure you have a short NFL career 🤦🏽‍♂️”

Skattebo addressed the criticism directly with a post of his own, writing:

“Aye, honestly if you don’t like that I’m having a good time while dealing with a tough time, then just go ahead and unfollow and casually move on. I’m not able to play football and have the fun I’ve been having my whole life so I am doing things outside the box trying to find stuff to keep me happy. Enjoy the rest of y’all’s week and just don’t talk about me if you ain’t got nothing nice to say 🫡”

The Giants have not provided any recent updates on his condition, although the rookie shared that he has regained full function of his foot and toes. Before the injury in Week 8 against the Philadelphia Eagles, Skattebo had earned a 73.3 PFSN RB Impact Score with a C grade. Through eight games, he recorded 101 carries for 410 yards and five touchdowns, along with 207 receiving yards and two additional scores.
