Giants To Make ‘A Strong Push’ for 31-TD RB in Free Agency Despite Having Cam Skattebo

Giants expected to make a push for veteran running back Kenneth Walker III in free agency despite Cam Skattebo’s presence.

The New York Giants appear determined to reshape their rushing attack this offseason as they evaluate both the draft and the free agent market. Despite the breakout campaign of rookie rusher Cam Skattebo last year, the team could still look to strengthen the position with a proven veteran or even a splash first-round pick. A recent report suggests the Giants could be aggressive when free agency opens.

Connor Hughes Reports Giants Could Make Strong Push for Kenneth Walker III

NFL insider Connor Hughes reported that the Giants are heavily evaluating the running back market as they reshape the offense this offseason.

“The Giants are heavily invested in the running back market, both in free agency and the NFL Draft,” Hughes wrote. “Whether they land a player such as Seattle’s Kenneth Walker or Notre Dame’s Jeremiyah Love remains to be seen, but expect a strong push for established free agent options.”

That approach signals New York could pursue a veteran addition even after Skattebo’s emergence during his rookie season. Among the names connected to the market is Kenneth Walker III of the Seattle Seahawks. Walker has scored 31 touchdowns during his career and could become one of the most attractive running backs available.

Walker’s value surged following Seattle’s Super Bowl run. During the 2025 postseason, he averaged 4.8 yards per carry while producing 104.3 rushing yards and 34.7 receiving yards per game across three playoff contests.

He also scored four total touchdowns during that stretch. The regular season was productive as well. Walker rushed for 1,027 yards in 2025, added 31 receptions, and averaged 4.6 yards per carry. His overall performance ranked 20th in PFSN’s Running Back Impact Metric.

New Coaching Staff Signals Run-Focused Identity

The Giants’ interest in the running back market also aligns with the philosophy of new head coach John Harbaugh. The franchise hired Harbaugh earlier this offseason after he spent 18 seasons leading the Baltimore Ravens.

Harbaugh brings an extensive track record of success, including a Super Bowl victory and 12 playoff appearances during his time in Baltimore. His teams consistently emphasized physical play and strong rushing attacks, a formula the Giants appear ready to adopt.

New York finished 4-13 last season but showed flashes of competitiveness, including several close losses. The development of rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart and the presence of foundational players such as Dexter Lawrence, Malik Nabers, and Andrew Thomas give the roster a core to build around.

Strengthening the rushing attack would fit naturally within Harbaugh’s vision of a physical offense built behind a stronger offensive line.
