Malik Nabers’ sophomore season for the New York Giants was expected to be a continuation of his dominant rookie campaign. But the star wide receiver tore his right ACL and meniscus during the Week 4 matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers last September, which ended his season.
Following an initial surgery in October, Nabers underwent a secondary “cleanup” procedure this offseason to remove the scar tissue. For the franchise’s single-season reception leader (109), being sidelined has been especially difficult, especially when his professional career has just barely started.
John Harbaugh Shares Malik Nabers Injury Update
Giants head coach John Harbaugh has provided the latest update about Nabers, who is currently nursing an ACL injury, during the Giants’ OTAs. He acknowledged that the star receiver’s injury is not a “simple knee” and described the recovery process as a “slog” and a “grind”.
“Yeah, he’s in the middle of it. It’s such a hard thing,” Harbaugh said. “It’s an ACL, whatever else he had in that knee, not a simple knee [injury], you know. He’s in the slog of it and the grind of it, I’d say. He’s fighting through it, and he’s here every day, working hard at it.”
Expanding on Nabers’ potential recovery and return, Harbaugh added, “Just impossible to predict. I mean, the goal is to start the season and get out there sometime in training camp, that’d be the goal, and we will see what happens. If he’s out there, great. If he’s not out there, great. We will be ready to go either way, but I know he’s fighting like crazy to do his best to be out there.”
After the news broke, analysts on social media quickly expressed deep concern for the 22-year-old NFL star.
Former NFL quarterback, Dan Orlovsky, wrote, “Don’t like where this is trending/sounding lately. Hope he can get healthy.”
Uhhh not to be dramatic but this kind of seems like a huge deal https://t.co/klL9yQn7ck

NFL Insider & Writer, John Frascella, questioned the front office strategy, stating, “So why didn’t the Giants address the wide receiver position more aggressively in the offseason… AND Joe Schoen gets an extension??”
Huge Malik Nabers supporter. But this is scary
His ADP in early drafts is still round 2. That has to fall https://t.co/7ndiJiqZGY

Theo Gremminger, who is Fantasy Points’ lead fantasy analyst, concluded with his “Fantasy Takeaways” and reported, “1- Isaiah Likely has a pathway to lead NY in targets if Nabers misses significant time. Even with a healthy Nabers, Likely can be the team’s #2 target. 2- If healthy, Cam Skattebo would be the team’s offensive focal point. His ADP could rise significantly.”
Nabers was drafted by the Giants in 2024 as the sixth overall pick. He earned Pro Bowl honors as a rookie, becoming the first Giants rookie receiver to do so since Odell Beckham Jr.’s 2014 Pro Bowl appearance.
He finished his rookie season with 109 receptions for 1,204 yards and seven touchdowns. According to PFSN’s WR Impact Metric, Nabers posted an impact score of 83.5 in 2024, ranking 15th in the league. He played in only four games during the 2025 campaign, catching 18 passes for 271 yards and two touchdowns.
