NFL Draft Rumors: Jaxson Dart’s Future As Giants’ QB1 in Jeopardy After NFL Insider Shares Shocking Update

NFL draft rumors heat up after an NFL insider’s report raises questions about Jaxson Dart’s future with the Giants.

The New York Giants have one of the worst records in the league this season, and if their negative momentum continues, it could at least bring one positive outcome: the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL Draft. However, according to a recent report from an NFL insider, that scenario may not be good news for the Giants’ current quarterback, Jaxson Dart.

Ian Rapoport Provides a Major Update on Giants QB Jaxson Dart

With a 2–13 record, the Giants currently sit at the bottom of the NFC East and are among the league’s worst-performing teams this year. With two games left in the regular season, some fans may actually be hoping for two more losses.

The Giants are already on a nine-game losing streak, and even winning their remaining games wouldn’t change much. However, losing both games would significantly improve their draft position, securing the No. 1 overall pick, which is often used to select a franchise quarterback.

That presents a complicated situation, as the Giants already have a promising quarterback in Dart, whom they selected with the 25th pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. So far this season, Dart has thrown for 1,835 yards, 13 touchdowns, and just five interceptions, earning a 71.9 score on PFSN’s QB Impact metric.

Despite showing promise, a recent report from NFL insider Ian Rapoport suggests the Giants could still consider other quarterback options if they land the top pick, putting Dart’s future with the team in question.

“There’s also a chance if the Giants lose two, they could have the No. 1 overall pick,” Rapoport said. “Expect them to evaluate all options, including looking at Fernando Mendoza, before they make a decision on how they’re going to proceed.”

If the Giants do earn the first overall pick, it would make sense for them to explore every available option, including Indiana Hoosiers quarterback Fernando Mendoza. Still, it would be surprising if the team ultimately decided to move on from Dart so quickly.

Damien Harris Believes Dart Isn’t the Giants’ Future

While Dart has shown flashes of potential, there have also been moments when fans and analysts questioned his long-term future in the league. One such instance came in Week 16 against the Minnesota Vikings. In that game, Dart completed 7 of 13 passes for 33 yards, threw an interception, and was sacked five times.

Following that performance, several critics, including former Patriots running back Damien Harris, expressed doubts about Dart being the Giants’ quarterback of the future.

“I’m not sold that Jaxson Dart is the guy,” Harris said. “When I watch him play, I just don’t think he’s the guy. Whenever he tries to extend plays and use his legs, he exposes himself to injuries, and we’ve already seen that. At some point, it’s not just about protecting yourself, it’s about protecting the franchise.”

If the Giants do end up with the No. 1 overall pick, the questions surrounding Dart’s future with the franchise will only grow louder. After such a disappointing season, the team may seriously consider making a major change at quarterback.
