After finishing 4-13 in the 2025-26 NFL season, the New York Giants’ organization was expected to make several changes in the offseason, and general manager Joe Schoen’s future was uncertain.
The Giants picked up a 34-17 win over their longtime NFC East Division rival, the Dallas Cowboys, at MetLife Stadium on Sunday to close out the season.
What’s Happening With Giants GM Joe Schoen?
On Monday morning, as many NFL teams were working to either fire or retain their head coaches and general managers, the Giants made clear their choice for now regarding Schoen.
Ryan Dunleavy of the New York Post’s sports department posted the news on X on Monday morning.

Schoen will now be busy finding yet another new head coach for the Giants, following Mike Kafka’s interim tenure since the team fired Brian Daboll during the season.
Giants fans might not like the fact that Schoen is returning. However, that’s the direction the ownership wants to take at this time.
According to the Giants’ team website, Schoen was hired as the team’s fifth general manager since 1979 on Jan. 21, 2022. Before Schoen, other Giants’ general managers included George Young, a Pro Football Hall of Fame member, Ernie Accorsi, Jerry Reese, and Dave Gettleman.

Schoen, in the 2025 NFL Draft, impressed everyone as he selected Penn State star Abdul Carter, Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart, Arizona State standout Cam Skattebo, defensive tackle Darius Alexander, offensive lineman Marcus Mbow, tight end Thomas Fidone II, and defensive back Korie Black.
Giants team owners John Mara and Steve Tisch also put out a statement on Monday regarding Schoen’s future.

One of Schoen’s first moves as general manager was to hire Daboll as the Giants’ head coach. While Daboll earned the NFL Coach of the Year Award in 2022, he was unable to maintain the team’s level of success. Schoen’s previous NFL stops included time with the Buffalo Bills and Miami Dolphins, respectively.
Mara and Tisch obviously has faith and trust in what Schoen is trying to do with his ballclub. However, the general manager will be closely watched this offseason and into the 2026 NFL season.
Giants fans will hope that Schoen can make some moves to help get the team into a consistent winning pattern.
