Geno Smith Claps Back at Critics With ‘Blame It on Me’ Remark After Raiders’ Blowout Loss to Cowboys

Geno Smith fires a sarcastic response to his critics after the Raiders' Week 11 loss to the Cowboys drops them to 2-8 this year.

Geno Smith is having a disappointing 2025 NFL season in his first year with the Las Vegas Raiders. Their record dropped to just 2-8 after being blown out by the Dallas Cowboys in Week 11 on Monday Night Football. His postgame press conference included a sarcastic response to his critics, as his frustrations may be starting to boil over.

Geno Smith Fires Back at Critics

Smith surely wasn’t the only reason for the Raiders’ 33-16 loss to the Cowboys on MNF, but his lackluster performance didn’t exactly help them either. He threw an interception for the third consecutive game and now has 13 this season, which is more than his 12 touchdown passes.

He acknowledged some of his faults during his postgame press conference, but also appeared to take issue with feeling like all of the blame has been placed on him for the sinking Raiders. He fired off a sarcastic statement in response to the negativity he had been hearing about himself.

“I keep saying this man, if something don’t look right out there, blame it on me. Right? If it don’t look right, blame it on me. That’s all you can do, blame it on me. If your kids mess up at school, blame it on me. If your car breaks down going to work, blame it on me,” said Smith.

The veteran quarterback currently ranks 24th of 38 qualified quarterbacks in PFSN’s Impact Rankings for this season. Having more interceptions than touchdowns this year is one of the main reasons for his struggles, as his reunion with head coach Pete Carroll hasn’t worked out as they had hoped through 11 weeks.

The pair had success together with the Seattle Seahawks previously, before Mike Macdonald eventually replaced Carroll. This resulted in him stepping away from coaching, but he returned for the 2025 season after accepting a head coach offer from the Raiders.

The franchise then traded for Smith to reunite him with Carroll, theoretically aiming to return the Raiders to being playoff contenders, as they were in Seattle. Their first year in Las Vegas appears to be on its way to being a total failure, as their 2-8 record makes them one of the worst teams in the NFL.

A quarterback change seems to be a possibility at some point if the veteran doesn’t turn things around. However, no official announcements have been made to suggest that they are considering doing so yet. Kenny Pickett currently serves as his backup, but he has attempted just three passes this year.
