Garrett Wilson has clearly been the top wide receiver for the New York Jets during the 2025 NFL season. The issue is that he has been dealing with a knee injury this year that has limited him to just seven games. He is currently on the injured reserve list, but here’s the latest on when he could potentially return.
When Will Garrett Wilson Return for the Jets?
Wilson suffered a knee injury earlier this season that forced him to miss two games. Still, he was able to return in Week 10 for the Jets. He unfortunately re-injured his knee shortly after making his return, which resulted in New York placing him on the injured reserve list.
His 2025 season isn’t necessarily over yet. Still, he is not eligible to play in Week 13 when they take on the Atlanta Falcons. His first opportunity to come off of the IR will come in their Week 15 matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars. This will be when his four-game minimum absence has been served.
It’s unclear at this point if the Jets will activate him, even if he is healthy enough to play in the final four games of the season. He is one of the building blocks of their future as one of the top wide receivers in the NFL, and one who has already signed a contract extension with the franchise.
The team is currently far out of a playoff spot with their 2-9 record. While they have yet to be mathematically eliminated from contention, their hopes of being in the postseason are all but over. This could potentially impact whether they eventually activate Wilson or opt to hold off for next year.
He currently ranks 56th in PFSN’s Impact Rankings for this season, despite playing in only seven games. He has totaled 36 receptions on 59 targets for 395 yards and four touchdowns. He has done so despite playing in one of the worst offenses in the entire NFL and a miserable quarterback situation with Justin Fields and Tyrod Taylor both struggling to perform.
The Jets are currently rebuilding their roster and have recently added some young wide receivers with upside, potentially giving them reliable options behind Wilson. Among them are John Metchie and Adonai Mitchell, both of whom they acquired before the 2025 NFL trade deadline.
They were a part of packages that also included draft picks as they look to shake things up in their pursuit of becoming playoff contenders again.
