Whether in 2024 or 2025, Garrett Wilson has been the only bright spot for the struggling New York Jets. But his availability may now be in question for the team’s Week 7 contest. Wilson suffered an injury during Sunday’s tough defeat against the Denver Broncos in London, leaving fans concerned about his status going forward.

What Do We Know About Garrett Wilson’s Injury and Week 7 Availability?
Wilson sustained his injury late in the Jets’ 13-11 loss to the Broncos at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Based on early assessments, the injury initially appeared to be a hip problem, but further evaluation revealed the issue was actually with his knee.
Jets head coach Aaron Glenn initially described Wilson’s ailment as a hip injury immediately following the contest. However, Jets reporter Connor Hughes later clarified that Wilson is dealing with a knee injury that will require an MRI.
Wilson underwent the MRI on Monday, and per ESPN’s Rich Cimini, he “appears to have avoided a serious knee injury,” indicating there was no serious damage. NFL insider Adam Schefter recently reported that Wilson’s injury was a hyperextended knee, and he is now expected to miss some time.
WR Garrett Wilson underwent an MRI today and appears to have avoided a serious knee injury, per source, but it probably still means some down time.
Worth noting that the #Jets have two more games (CAR, at CIN) before their bye. Perhaps that factors into the timetable.

The fourth-year wideout appeared emotional when discussing his condition with reporters after the game. “I’m just trying to wait for the stuff to come back. It’s really messing with my mental and I don’t want to think about it,” he said when asked about the injury.
Interestingly, on Wednesday, Glenn told reporters that he isn’t ruling out Wilson for Week 7 just yet. When asked if he has a chance to play, Glenn simply stated: “We’ll see how he progresses.”
This is likely just gamesmanship to keep the Carolina Panthers guessing and preparing for Wilson this week, but if true, this would be huge for a New York team that is looking to win it’s first game.
As Schefter pointed out, the Jets have two more games before their Week 9 bye, so it’s possible the team is cautious with their star receiver and sit him until Week 10. With the team winless, there’s no sense in pushing Wilson back at less than 100%.
Even though the worst-case scenario of ligament damage was avoided, missing games against the Panthers and Cincinnati Bengals will still be a significant blow. The Jets lack depth at wide receiver: Wilson is the team’s top option, while their next-best pass catchers are tight end Mason Taylor and running back Breece Hall.
With Josh Reynolds, Arian Smith, Allen Lazard, and Tyler Johnson leading the wide receiver depth chart in Wilson’s absence, quarterback Justin Fields and the New York offense, ranked 29th in PFSN’s Offensive Impact metric, will face a daunting challenge.
Wilson had been performing at an elite level despite the Jets’ 0-6 start, totaling 36 receptions for 395 yards and four touchdowns. This injury comes as a major setback during what was shaping up to be the best season of his career.
Wilson’s Fantasy Outlook
A matchup with Patrick Surtain II is a tough way to spend your London vacation and playing with Justin Fields on one of those days isn’t exactly fun either.
Wilson saw a 50% target share and you’ll take that every day of the week. Yes, it resulted in just 4.3 PPR points, but process wise, you made a very reasonable call.
It happens and it’ll happen again to this sporadic offense.
Even in what can be an awfully low volume offense, Wilson has earned at least eight targets in every game this season, volume that gets an elite talent like this into starting lineups.
The per target upside is capped in a significant way (we are more than 10 months removed from his last 35+ yard reception), but he’s not being pushed for opportunities and with his pedigree, that’s enough for me to lock him in weekly when healthy.
That’s not the case right now as this hyperextended knee could cost Wilson the rest of October.
All reports point to him having avoided serious injury, so don’t do anything drastic. If anything, this injury could be a blessing in disguise … you can now cross “watch Jets circus” off your to do list.
