Garrett Nussmeier Landing Spots: 3 NFL Draft Suitors for the LSU QB Include Texans, Jets

Boom-or-bust QB Garrett Nussmeier could land in a few interesting spots; here are three that make the most sense.

The draft’s basically here. At this point, teams aren’t really “discovering” anything new; they’re just overthinking what they already know. And Garrett Nussmeier is one of those guys people can’t seem to agree on.

Before the season, he was getting legit top-10 hype. Then the year happened: injuries, some rough games, and some “what was that?” moments, and now he’s kind of floating in that unpredictable range. But the arm talent is still obvious. You watch him, and there are throws where you go, yeah, that’s an NFL guy. Then five minutes later, you’re not so sure.

That’s why where he lands matters a lot more than usual.

NFL Draft Landing Spots That Make Sense for Garrett Nussmeier

Houston Texans

This is the one fans might not like, but it’s not that crazy. C.J. Stroud just hasn’t looked as sharp as he did as a rookie. Not terrible, but not the same guy either. The offense stalled out more than you’d expect, and there were moments where it didn’t completely collapse without him, which is a little concerning.

Drafting Nussmeier here isn’t about replacing Stroud. It’s more like giving yourself options. The Texans feel close to being really good, especially with that elite defense, but the offense hasn’t fully caught up.

The Texans had a PFSN NFL Offensive Impact score of 70.9, which ranked 23rd in the league. Bringing in someone with upside at QB gives you a fallback plan without blowing anything up. If Stroud figures it out again, cool. If not, at least you didn’t sit there and do nothing.

Miami Dolphins

They brought in Malik Willis, sure. But that shouldn’t stop them from taking another shot.

Willis is still mostly projection at this point. Nussmeier would be too, just in a different way. If he’s there in the middle rounds, it’s the kind of move that doesn’t cost much but could pay off.

He plays aggressively, sometimes too aggressively, but that mentality isn’t the worst thing to have in a QB room that could use a little edge. At minimum, he pushes Willis. At best, maybe he develops into something more.

The PFSN consensus big board has Nussmeier at QB3, though it’s a lackluster class at the position, which will still naturally elevate his stock. Either way, it’s a low-risk swing as they still look to figure out the QB position under the new regime.

New York Jets

At some point, the Jets just have to keep trying until they get it right. If they don’t take a quarterback early, this feels like the type of move they’d make. And honestly, it might be the right kind of situation for Nussmeier. He probably shouldn’t be starting right away anyway.

Let him sit. Let him show his inconsistencies in practice instead of on Sundays. With Geno Smith back in town, that just takes the pressure off and lets him figure things out.

The Jets’ passing game has been bad for a while now. Last season, they had the worst passing attack in the NFL, ranking 32nd in passing yards with only 2,385. Everyone knows it.

So yeah, taking another quarterback isn’t overkill; it’s kind of the bare minimum at this point until they actually have the answer under center. And if he hits, no one’s going to care where he was drafted.
