Two contenders make immediate sense: the Kansas City Chiefs and the Los Angeles Chargers. In his latest reporting, ESPN insider Jeremy Fowler pointed to both organizations as logical destinations based on scheme and circumstance.

“But Hill might just be the unique player who can recover from this and continue to make plays,” Fowler wrote. “A potential return to Kansas City has to be mentioned. The Chiefs’ offense hasn’t quite been the same since the franchise traded Hill in 2022. Reuniting with Los Angeles Chargers offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel makes sense, too. Hill was perfectly suited for McDaniel’s scheme. While Hill’s days of top-shelf earning power might be over, he’ll likely still get a respectable contract.”

Kansas City offers familiarity and a championship foundation. Since trading Hill in 2022, the Chiefs have adjusted, but the offense has not consistently recreated the vertical stress and spacing he provided alongside Patrick Mahomes.

The Chargers connection carries real schematic logic. Mike McDaniel, who built Miami’s offense around Hill’s speed and motion principles, now serves as Los Angeles’s offensive coordinator after being dismissed by the Dolphins.

Hill’s most productive year in Miami came in 2023 when he led the NFL with 1,799 receiving yards in that system. A reunion would eliminate uncertainty about how he would be deployed.

Miami’s decision to release Hill reflects a broader reset. After moving on from Bradley Chubb, the Dolphins created $22.8 million in cap savings, as new head coach Jeff Hafley and general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan reshape the roster.

The production dip began before the injury. Hill appeared in just four games in 2025 before dislocating his knee and tearing his ACL. He totaled 21 receptions for 265 yards and one touchdown. Per PFSN’s Offense Impact Metric, Miami ranked No. 19 overall in 2025 with a 73 impact score, a noticeable step back from its earlier peak.

He turns 32 on March 1, and his recovery timeline remains fluid. ACL reconstruction typically spans nine to 12 months, and return to performance does not always match medical clearance. Teams weighing a move will have to decide how much of his speed and burst return once he is back on the field.

Kansas City and Los Angeles are the first teams being connected. Free agency will determine whether either turns interest into reality.
