The Green Bay Packers will start training camp with several glaring questions ahead of a pivotal eighth season in charge for coach Matt LaFleur. Star pass rusher Micah Parsons is still recovering from a torn ACL, which ended his 2025 season, and running back Josh Jacobs is currently dealing with the fallout of a May arrest on domestic abuse allegations, which includes a felony strangulation charge.
Chris Simms Reveals Major Concerns for Packers
During an appearance on Tuesday’s segment of “Pro Football Talk,” former NFL quarterback Chris Simms detailed his concerns with the Packers heading into next season. He pinpointed Parsons’ injury and Jacobs’ off-field legal issues as concerns for LaFleur’s team.
“This is a team that we know is extremely talented, right?. They got a damn good football coach in Matt LaFleur,” Simms said. “They’re in one of the hardest divisions in football. Even though they’ve gone to the playoffs the last three years in a row, their fan base is going, we should be ranked higher in the playoffs, we should have made more of a run in the playoffs.”
“To start training camp with that many guys on the PUP, another guy in the non-football injury list. We got Josh Jacobs dealing with a case off the field,” Simms added. “Of course, your best player [Parsons] on your football team, there’s gotta be concern.
“I mean, it’s the highest-paid guy on your football team, and it doesn’t seem like when you talk to people in the know that he’s just around the corner from being able to play and do this. So, yeah, I’m a little concerned for the Packers and the situation they got going on right now.”
Parsons tore his ACL after suffering a non-contact injury in a Week 15 clash against the Denver Broncos. He still earned his third first-team All-Pro nod and a PFN EDGE Impact score of 82.0, ranking him at No. 17 in the NFL.
During Tuesday’s segment of the “Pat McAfee Show,” Packers insider Matt Schneidman revealed that the five-time Pro Bowler will likely miss the first one and a half months of the season, and is expected to return in Week 6’s clash against the Dallas Cowboys.

On the other hand, Jacobs, who has earned three Pro Bowl nods and one first-team All-Pro selection in his NFL career, joined the Packers from the Las Vegas Raiders two years ago. He was arrested on May 26 and booked on five charges, one felony count of strangulation and suffocation, plus four misdemeanor counts of battery, criminal damage to property, disorderly conduct, and intimidation of a victim.
He finished last season with 234 carries for 929 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns, while adding 282 receiving yards on 36 receptions and 1 score.
Under LaFleur, the Packers have reached the postseason six times out of seven but have been unable to get over the hump to reach the Super Bowl, leaving the coach with a 3-6 record.
Last season, they blew a 21-3 lead in the Wild Card round, losing 31-27 to the Chicago Bears to continue their woeful run.
