The Dallas Cowboys have seen many quarterbacks pass through the team’s ranks throughout its existence. From legendary names like Troy Aikman and Roger Staubach to little-known backups like Brad Johnson and Brooks Bollinger, “America’s Team” has seen several eras in the NFL.
One of its former shot-callers, Ben DiNucci, partnered with the NFL and CBS Sports to have some fun at a local flag football game.
Ex-Cowboys QB Ben DiNucci Has Undercover Fun With Denver Flag Football Players
DiNucci attended a flag football game in Denver, Colorado, and went undercover as “Ben Jones” to see how the locals would react to his throws. “I’m gonna see if the arm still has what it takes and whether any of these guys can tell that if used to spin it back in the day,” he opened the video before joining the men for the game.
He had enjoyable exchanges with his teammates, asking them about their playing days and getting to know them better.
“Did you play back in the day?” DiNucci asked a fellow quarterback, who responded, saying, “I did. Pretty good.”
When the former Cowboys shot-caller was asked whether he played back in the day, he simply said he used to play in high school, maintaining his cover.
However, it didn’t stop him from going out on his first drive, trying to shock everyone. Before he and his team took the field, he called the play:
“Everybody go deep the first play.”
DiNucci’s receivers went long, and he sent out a long ball, finding his man way down the field. Spectators were all stunned by the pass, with one exclaiming: “Oh my God! Good arm!”
The undercover operation wasn’t without its tense moments, though. When the former Cowboy spoke to his fellow quarterback before the game, he discovered that they both grew up in Pittsburgh.
DiNucci wondered whether the player might recognize him, which would blow his cover. Additionally, the fact that certain players also grew suspicious of all the cameras didn’t help, either.
However, the former pro evaded scrutiny, as one man thought that the filming was “for the website,” and he continued his operation of picking apart the opposition.
In the end, everyone came together, and DiNucci revealed his real identity as a former NFL quarterback. His fellow players were visibly surprised and amused by the revelation, with some believing it explained the impressive throws that he made.
Fans will look forward to a possible next collaboration that could see another pro or former pro take the field undercover for a social game of football.
