Omar Cooper’s Fantasy Outlook

Cooper played for a National Championship last season with the Hoosiers and consistently proved himself as a player ready for Sunday’s. His 13 TD receptions were tied for the third most in the FBS, part of a breakout that really wasn’t forcasted by his first two seasons on campus (totals: 46 catches for 861 yards and nine touchdowns).

He scored in each of Indiana’s first two playoff games and accounted for 31.3% of their receptions in the title game.

He’s a strong asset who thrived in the slot last season. Cooper isn’t limited to that role, but it might be his best bet as a part of an offense that ranks 31st in cumulative passer rating over the past five seasons.

Due to the uncertainty under center in New York, it’s hard to feel great about any member of this offense in the short-term. That said, they are building a nucleus that should benefit long-term from the lumps that they take in the short-term.

When you look at the four receivers who went ahead of Cooper in Round 1, three have a concept of a plan lai out for them. We don’t know for sure that Cam Ward will be able to elevate Carnell Tate or Tyler Shough Jordyn Tyson, but dynasty managers should feel a level of comfort in knowing that the QB in control of the future is at least on the roster.

That’s not the case the Cooper with the Jets and KC Concepcion’s future isn’t clear in Cleveland when it comes to his signal caller.

We had Tate, Tyson, and Makai Lemon (Eagles) graded as a tier above these secondary receivers entering the draft and that certainly remains the case given these landing spots.

Parker Washington showed tremendous progress at the end of last season and while Matthew Golden didn’t offer much as a rookie, Jordan Love looks like the future of the position in Green Bay.

For me, Cooper is in the Jayden Higgins range of dynatsy asset. He gets the benefit of draft capital and a “safer” target type, but Higgins gets a quality of QB bump and has the type of size that naturally offers upside.

Wide receivers are the lifeblood of dynatsy leagues. You’re not drafting Cooper for immediate help, you’re speculating on talent and hoping that the Jets can figure out the QB position. If you’re playing the long game, the fact that this team moved up and will likely be adding a young QB sooner than later would be enough to have my interes.

If you’re in more of a win-now situation, Cooper is the type of rookie who you could draft and move before he ever plays in a game with the goal being to take advantage a title window.

The first three receivers taken in the 2026 NFL Draft are centerpieces you hope to count on in the future. The second tier (Cooper and Concepcion) are fliers you take and hope for the best.
