This is exactly the type of running back that I land on with regularity. Everyone wants to show off their rosters with Jahmyr Gibbs or Bijan Robinson, and those guys are great. Obviously. Their production, however, goes to waste if you fail to build out a roster with responsible levels of depth and some connective tissue.
Enter Tony Pollard.
Should I Draft Tony Pollard in Fantasy Football?
He’s reached 1,000 rushing yards in each of the past four seasons and has appeared in 40 of 41 games over the past three years. He’s always there. He profiles as the lead. He’s going to average somewhere in the 4.3 yards per carry range. He’s going to haul in three of every four passes thrown his way.
Pollard is on your roster to keep you competitive, not to win you weeks, and that’s just fine. He gets Dallas when Robinson is on bye, so that direct construction holds plenty of logic, but he really is like a nice couch.

I’ve got more exposure to Pollard than I would have guessed, but I guess that’s just because I enjoy building out well-thought-out rosters. Getting this sort of volume after the first six rounds are complete is nearly impossible, and that’s valuable, even if you’re not willing to call Pollard an exceptional talent.
This offense doesn’t have to excel for their RB1 to return positively on this investment: if they can take a step forward like what we saw from the Panthers a season ago, I think you’re getting a player who returns fifth-round value with relative ease.
