Should You Start Chicago Bears WRs DJ Moore or Luther Burden III in Fantasy Football Week 13?

DJ Moore and Luther Burden III continue to battle for the WR2 role behind Rome Odunze. Can either or both Bears WR's go in fantasy lineups this week?

Chicago’s receiving hierarchy features two wideouts with wildly different trajectories heading into a crucial Black Friday matchup. DJ Moore and Luther Burden III both enter Week 13 against Philadelphia seeking more consistent production. Can fantasy football managers trust either Bears receiver on the road?

DJ Moore’s Fantasy Outlook

Moore has delivered the definition of feast-or-famine production over his last four contests. He crested 22 fantasy points twice during that stretch, showcasing the elite upside that made him a fantasy asset in previous seasons. The other two outings produced 0.0 and 3.1 fantasy points, representing complete disappearing acts that tanked lineups.

The inconsistency stems directly from chronic target scarcity. Moore hasn’t been targeted more than seven times in any game this entire season. He has seven contests with five or fewer targets, placing him firmly behind Rome Odunze in the Bears’ passing attack pecking order. This lack of volume creates an unstable foundation for weekly fantasy production.

His season-long numbers paint a concerning picture for a supposed WR2. Moore now has more games with single-digit fantasy points than double-digit performances. He’s caught 36 passes for 485 yards and three touchdowns. The 44.1 yards per game represents his lowest output since his rookie campaign.

The underlying talent remains evident when opportunities materialize. Moore demonstrated his big-play ability during his two explosive outings, reminding managers why they drafted him. The problem is projecting when those ceiling games will occur versus the inevitable floor performances that plague his weekly outlook.

Luther Burden III’s Fantasy Outlook

Burden finally secured the WR3 role after an inexplicably long developmental period behind Olamide Zaccheaus. The transition took far longer than his talent warranted, as Burden represents a vastly superior player who had no business operating behind a veteran afterthought. Over the past three weeks, he has played close to 50% of the snaps while running more routes than Zaccheaus.

The expanded involvement hasn’t translated to fantasy production despite the increased opportunity. Burden caught three passes on five targets for 27 yards in Week 11 against Minnesota. Those five targets matched his season-high from the previous week. Yet that ceiling remains woefully insufficient for fantasy relevance.

Outside of his flukey 65-yard touchdown reception in Week 3, Burden hasn’t reached double-digit fantasy points in any contest. His receiving statistics show alarming volatility, as he has as many games with negative receiving yards as he does with 50-plus yard performances. This boom-or-bust profile creates immense weekly uncertainty without the volume to stabilize his floor.

The hope centers on continued role expansion throughout the season’s final stretch. Burden may already be a superior talent to Moore based on athleticism and route-running ability. However, Moore retains the clear WR2 designation in head coach Ben Johnson’s game plans, limiting how much Burden can realistically grow his target share in the immediate future.

Should You Start Moore or Burden This Week?

Philadelphia presents a brutally difficult matchup for Chicago’s receiving corps. The Eagles allow the fourth-fewest schedule-adjusted fantasy points per game to wide, ranking among the NFL’s elite pass defenses.

The game environment strongly favors the home team. Philadelphia opened as 7-point favorites with the total set at 44.5 points. The Eagles enter seeking redemption after blowing a 21-0 second-half lead to Dallas in their only loss since Week 6. Chicago rides high following a narrow victory over Pittsburgh, setting up a perfect letdown spot for the visitors.

Caleb Williams will struggle to support multiple pass-catchers against a motivated Philadelphia defense playing with something to prove. The Bears’ offensive line faces immense pressure from an Eagles front that has dominated inferior competition all season. This defensive intensity should limit Williams’ time to throw and force quicker decisions that favor underneath options.

Moore qualifies as a suspect WR3 given his volatile production patterns and difficult road matchup. His ceiling remains intact if Philadelphia focuses coverage elsewhere, but the floor sits dangerously close to zero based on recent performances.

Burden belongs on fantasy benches in all formats. His minimal target volume and touchdown dependency make him an untenable option outside of deep leagues. But he is still someone worth holding for the potential of a late-season breakout.
