The Chicago Bears prepare for their critical Week 16 Saturday afternoon matchup against the Green Bay Packers following their dominant victory over the Cleveland Browns. Rome Odunze aggravated his foot injury in pregame warmups last week and was ruled out shortly before kickoff. Will fantasy football managers have their talented sophomore receiver available this week?
Rome Odunze Injury Update
Odunze had not missed a game until Week 14. The second-year receiver suited up for all 12 of the Bears’ first 12 games, providing consistency for the team’s passing attack.
After Odunze did not practice on Wednesday before Week 14, NFL insider Tom Pelissero reported that the Bears receiver has been playing with a stress fracture in his foot. The injury has been an issue for a significant part of the season. Odunze first appeared on the injury report due to his heel issue in the week preceding the Bears’ game against Cincinnati.
Pelissero reported the injury is not expected to be a long-term issue, and the wideout will likely be considered week-to-week going forward.
This week presented a strange situation. Odunze returned to practice on Wednesday as a limited participant after sitting out the entire previous week. He remained limited at practice all three days during Week 15. The Bears listed him as questionable on their final injury report heading into Sunday’s matchup against the Browns.
Odunze wound up being activated for last week’s game, but did not play. In a bizarre scenario, the Bears inexplicably seemed to think a broken foot would somehow get better with just one game off. Odunze’s injury is apparently so bad that he could not make it through pregame warmups without aggravating it. He was ruled out five minutes before kickoff, undoubtedly leaving many fantasy managers unwittingly starting a zero.
It seems highly improbable that Odunze plays on Saturday. The short turnaround from Sunday to Saturday gives him even less time to recover.
Odunze’s Fantasy Outlook
With Odunze sidelined, Luther Burden III has emerged as a significant factor in the Bears’ passing attack. The rookie receiver had six catches on seven targets for 84 yards before exiting with an ankle injury in the third quarter against Cleveland. He tied his career high with six receptions, and his 84 receiving yards marked the second-highest total of his career.
This was Burden’s best performance as a professional, showcasing the chemistry he has been developing with quarterback Caleb Williams. With Odunze unavailable, Burden and the rest of the Bears’ receiving corps experienced a potential uptick in usage, and Burden responded before his injury forced an early exit. His gradual introduction to the lineup seems to have paid off, as Williams consistently sought him out early in the game.

If both Burden and Odunze miss time, DJ Moore becomes the clear WR1 option in Chicago’s passing attack. Moore had four catches for 69 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday’s victory over Cleveland. His production demonstrates he remains capable of delivering fantasy value when given opportunities.
Olamide Zaccheaus profiles as the next receiver in line for targets. With limited healthy receivers available, Zaccheaus could see increased work alongside Moore if both Odunze and Burden sit. However, Zaccheaus remains a risky fantasy option given the Bears’ run-heavy offensive approach.
Fantasy managers rostering Odunze should not expect him to suit up on Saturday. The combination of the aggravated stress fracture and the short week makes his availability virtually impossible. Managers competing in the fantasy playoffs need to have alternative options ready and should not wait until Saturday to make lineup decisions.
