Quentin Johnston Injury Update: Should Fantasy Managers Be Worried About the Chargers WR?

The Los Angeles Chargers are monitoring their top receiver as they prepare for Sunday’s matchup with the Miami Dolphins. Quentin Johnston made an appearance on the injury report after being remarkably durable through the campaign’s opening weeks. For fantasy football managers counting on the breakout receiver’s continued production, what does this unexpected development mean for his Week 6 status?

    Quentin Johnston Injury Update

Update: Johnston was limited for a third consecutive practice on Friday and drew a questionable tag. Tentatively expect him to play, but it is far from a guarantee.

Johnston has been a model of consistency and health throughout 2025, missing zero contests all season. The third-year receiver has emerged as one of the season’s most pleasant surprises, leading the Chargers with 377 receiving yards and four touchdowns through five games.

Wednesday brought his first injury designation of the season when he appeared on the practice report with a hamstring issue. However, the circumstances surrounding his status provide reason for optimism rather than concern.

Johnston was able to participate in practice on a limited basis, which represents an encouraging sign for his weekend availability. Limited participation suggests this is likely general soreness rather than any sort of significant hamstring strain that would threaten his playing time.

The fact that he could still take part in practice activities, even in a restricted capacity, indicates the hamstring issue isn’t severe enough to prevent football movements entirely. Players dealing with more serious hamstring problems are typically held out of practice completely to avoid aggravating the injury.

At this point in the season, veteran players often deal with various aches and soreness that can result in limited practice designations. Johnston’s ability to still get on the field for work suggests the medical staff isn’t overly concerned about the severity of his hamstring issue.

His breakout campaign has made him one of fantasy football’s most valuable discoveries, ranking eighth among all receivers in fantasy points despite being drafted as roughly the 38th receiver in most leagues. This production has come while playing 82% of offensive snaps consistently.

Fantasy managers should expect Johnston to suit up for Sunday’s game against the Dolphins. The limited practice participation represents standard injury management rather than a red flag about his availability.

Update: Johnston was limited again on Thursday. He should be fine for Sunday.

    Johnston Fantasy Outlook

Not all good things last forever and we were reminded of that last week with Johnston posting his first dud of the 2026 season against the Commanders, earning a season low four targets on his way to 6.9 PPR points, eight points below his previous worse showing of the season.

This was an oddly low passing plan for the Chargers and it sounds like that’s going to be an outlier, not the norm, so I don’t think you need to run for the hills, especially in a plus matchup like this against a defense that is allowing opponents to complete a league-high 74.5% of their passes.

What I did find interesting, however, was his aDOT. It’s not dropped in three straight weeks, with his mark of 6.3 yards last week being slightly more than half of his season rate.

If this sustains, it could be an issue. Ladd McConkey and Keenan Allen have been unable to match Johnston’s production down the field, but if this turns into a contest as to who can earn short range targets at the highest level, there is serious risk for all involved on a weekly basis.

Keep an eye on how he is used in this perfect matchup. The loss of Joe Alt could encourage the quick hitting passing attack, so this very much could be something we need to monitor. That said, you’re playing him this week: the good signs from September earn him another week or two of trust before we drastically alter our thoughts.
