The Houston Texans face a potential disaster scenario as they prepare for this weekend’s matchup with San Francisco. Nico Collins sustained a head injury during the fourth quarter that forced him to exit the primetime contest. With the Texans already dealing with offensive struggles and facing a short week, should fantasy football managers expect their elite receiver to miss time?
Nico Collins Injury Update
Collins fell hard on his head on the sideline during Monday Night Football while attempting to make a catch from C.J. Stroud in the fourth quarter. The Pro Bowl receiver leaped for a back-shoulder pass while covered by Seahawks cornerback Josh Jobe but couldn’t secure the catch, falling to the ground with his head striking the turf.
Collins was clearly holding his head after the fall and required medical assistance to get to his feet. He was quickly taken to the blue medical tent for evaluation before being escorted to the locker room, where he was officially diagnosed with a concussion and ruled out for the remainder of the game.
Head coach DeMeco Ryans confirmed the concussion diagnosis after the game, stating “We’ll evaluate him as the week goes on.” Collins will now enter the NFL’s concussion protocol and must clear multiple steps before being cleared to return to action.
Typically, players miss about one game with concussions, though there are exceptions. Just last week, Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. was able to clear the protocol without missing a game, but that outcome is very rare.
Since the Texans played on Monday night, Collins has one less day to recover compared to players who sustain concussions during Sunday games. The compressed timeline makes it extremely likely he will not play in Week 8 against the 49ers, marking his first missed game of the 2025 season.
Collins Fantasy Outlook
This injury comes at a particularly unfortunate time as Week 8 represents “Byemageddon” with six highly fantasy-relevant teams on bye. Fantasy managers are scrambling to find anyone who might score a handful of points to fill their lineups, making Collins’ absence even more impactful.
Collins remains a fantasy WR1 when healthy and will resume that status upon his return. However, if he cannot go in Week 8, the Texans will be severely depleted at receiver with Christian Kirk also sidelined due to a hamstring strain.

Xavier Hutchinson will start on the outside opposite rookie Jayden Higgins, while fellow rookie Jaylin Noel would man the slot. Of the three available receivers, Noel possesses the most upside and has the role most suited for fantasy production, making him the preferred waiver wire pickup for desperate managers.
Tight end Dalton Schultz should also see increased usage in a situation similar to how the Tampa Bay Buccaneers utilize Cade Otton when they are without their top receivers. Schultz becomes a viable streaming option given the increased target opportunity.
The Texans’ offense was already struggling before losing their top receiving threat, ranking 21st in scoring and 23rd overall. Without Collins and potentially Kirk, Stroud will be throwing to a significantly depleted group of pass-catchers against a 49ers defense looking to bounce back from recent struggles.
