What Is the Fantasy Impact of the Week 9 NFL Weather?

Weather information was taken from Weather.com at 1:00 a.m. on Sunday, November 2. In-depth stats are courtesy of Pro Football Reference.

    Chicago Bears at Cincinnati Bengals

    • Kickoff: Sunday, 1 p.m. ET
    • Expected temperature: Mid 50s
    • Showers: 5%
    • Wind: 4 mph southeasterly

The weather shouldn’t play a significant role when the Chicago Bears visit the Cincinnati Bengals this Sunday. Joe Flacco’s shoulder injury might impact the Bengals’ offense, but an injured Flacco is still a better option than a healthy Jake Browning.

With both defenses giving up points, all the usual faces are playable in fantasy, while D’Andre Swift’s injury makes Kyle Monangai a solid flex option.

Carolina Panthers at Green Bay Packers

    • Kickoff: Sunday, 1 p.m. ET
    • Expected temperature: High 40s to Low 50s
    • Showers: 0%
    • Wind: 16 mph Southwesterly

November is upon us, and the weather will continue to intensify each week, particularly in the north. Few, if any, NFL stadiums can be as impacted by the weather as Lambeau Field, and Week 9 might be the start of that this year.

Colder temperatures and higher winds favor a run-heavy approach from both teams. However, Green Bay’s stellar run defense could force Bryce Young to take on the elements through the air.

Atlanta Falcons at New England Patriots

    • Kickoff: Sunday, 1 p.m. ET
    • Expected temperature: low 50s
    • Showers: 0%
    • Wind: 9 mph west-northwesterly

With the Buffalo Bills facing the Kansas City Chiefs later in the day, the New England Patriots might have a chance to stretch their lead atop the AFC East this weekend. They welcome an inconsistent Atlanta Falcons team that was just thumped by the miserable Miami Dolphins in Week 8.

The weather shouldn’t factor into this one, on a dry November afternoon at Foxborough.

San Francisco 49ers at New York Giants

    • Kickoff: Sunday, 1 p.m. ET
    • Expected temperature: low 60s
    • Showers: 0%
    • Wind: 6 mph westerly

The New York Giants will look to get back on track against the San Francisco 49ers, whose extensive injury list is threatening to catch up with them. Both teams have something to prove, and there are plenty of intriguing fantasy options outside the obvious stars.

Darius Slayton, Wan’Dale Robinson, Theo Johnson, Kendrick Bourne, and Jauan Jennings are all potentially in play on a calm, dry day in East Rutherford.

Los Angeles Chargers at Tennessee Titans

    • Kickoff: Sunday, 1 p.m. ET
    • Expected temperature: low 50s
    • Showers: 36% at kickoff, dropping throughout.
    • Wind: 6 mph northerly

Tennessee Titans fans will have modest expectations for their team’s matchup with the Los Angeles Chargers. The Chargers have averaged 30 points per game over their last three, while the Titans have given up an average of 29.3 points in theirs.

Kimani Vidal is a must-start, especially with showers expected, while passing will probably be affected. The Titans rank 31st in PFSN’s Offense Impact metric and are entirely avoidable in fantasy if you have other options.

    Indianapolis Colts at Pittsburgh Steelers

    • Kickoff: Sunday, 1 p.m. ET
    • Expected temperature: high 50s to low 60s
    • Showers: 0%
    • Wind: 4 mph southerly

Aaron Rodgers will probably need to be on top form to keep up with a phenomenal Indianapolis Colts offense this weekend. The Colts lead the league in points per drive (3.39) and yards per play (6.54), while the Pittsburgh Steelers’ defense is bottom-10 in both yards and points allowed per game.

The Colts have been fairly generous on defense as well, giving this game shootout potential and making all the usual faces playable in fantasy. A mild Pittsburgh afternoon means there is no need to factor in the weather.

Kansas City Chiefs at Buffalo Bills

    • Kickoff: Sunday, 4:25 p.m. ET
    • Expected temperature: low 50s to high 40s
    • Showers: 4%
    • Wind: 8 mph west-southwesterly

The main event of the weekend is the repeat of last season’s AFC championship game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Buffalo Bills. The Bills have struggled to defend the run this year; that, combined with injuries on the interior of their defensive line, makes Kareem Hunt a solid fantasy play this week.

The cold weather may suit Kansas City’s catch-and-run-style passing offense more than Buffalo’s, but both run games should be productive in a great matchup.

    Seattle Seahawks at Washington Commanders

    • Kickoff: Sunday, 8:20 p.m. ET
    • Expected temperature: low 50s to high 40s
    • Showers: 4%
    • Wind: 2 mph southeasterly

Similarly, low temperatures in Washington could favor a run-heavy approach on Sunday Night Football. However, the Seattle Seahawks have allowed a league-low 3.3 yards per carry this season, and are tied for the fewest rushing touchdowns allowed (2).

Both defenses are bottom-10 in passing yards allowed per game, and Jayden Daniels is back from injury, so all receivers should be in play.
