What is the Fantasy Impact of the Week 5 NFL Weather?

Weather information taken from Weather.com at 11:59 on Saturday, October 4. In-depth stats courtesy of Pro Football Reference.

Minnesota Vikings at Cleveland Browns

  • Kickoff: 9:30 a.m. ET Sunday
  • Expected Temperature: Low 60s
  • Showers: 0% throughout
  • Wind: 16mph West-Northwesterly

The Cleveland Browns travel across the Atlantic to face the Minnesota Vikings in their third “home” game of the season. The Browns have “hosted” the Vikings in London before, when a DeShone Kizer-led Cleveland side lost 33-16 to Case Keenum’s Minnesota at Twickenham Stadium in 2017.

This week, the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium’s closed-off design should effectively subdue sixteen mph winds, while cloudy skies are expected to remain dry.

Miami Dolphins at Carolina Panthers

  • Kickoff: 1:00 p.m. ET Sunday
  • Expected Temperature: Mid-High 70s
  • Showers: 0% throughout
  • Wind: 8 mph Easterly

The Miami Dolphins will look to continue their recent positive form and secure a second consecutive victory against the struggling Carolina Panthers. Like in London, the weather shouldn’t affect either team, making fantasy start/sit decisions a little more straightforward.

Dallas Cowboys at New York Jets

  • Kickoff: 1:00 p.m. ET Sunday
  • Expected Temperature: Low-Mid 80s
  • Showers: 0% throughout
  • Wind: 4 mph Southerly to start, increasing steadily throughout

The Dallas Cowboys will look to pile more misery onto the 0-4 New York Jets in Week 5, and could hardly have hoped for better conditions for a trip northeast. Both the temperature and the windspeed are expected to rise throughout the game, but should stop short of anything impactful.

Denver Broncos at Philadelphia Eagles

  • Kickoff: 1:00 p.m. ET Sunday
  • Expected Temperature: Low 80s
  • Showers: 0% throughout
  • Wind: 5 mph South-Southwesterly

The Denver Broncos are the next playoff contenders to attempt to defeat the Philadelphia Eagles, last season’s Super Bowl Champions. Sean Payton’s men have gotten off to a disappointing 2-2 start, while the Eagles have stormed through a four-game gauntlet to begin the year.

The temperature is expected to remain relatively consistent throughout the game, while wind speeds will creep up slightly, though not enough to worry either kicker. There’s no guarantee A.J. Brown won’t disappoint in fantasy again, but it won’t have anything to do with the weather.

Houston Texans at Baltimore Ravens

  • Kickoff: 1:00 p.m. ET Sunday
  • Expected Temperature: High 70s
  • Showers: 0% throughout
  • Wind: 5 mph South-Southeasterly

Two teams that didn’t expect to be 1-3 heading into Week 5, the Houston Texans and Baltimore Ravens, both need to turn their seasons around on Sunday. The Ravens haven’t started 1-3 since 2015, Lamar Jackson’s freshman year at Louisville.

Jackson is sidelined with a hamstring injury, and it won’t affect Sunday’s result; neither should the weather, with sunny temperatures expected to flirt with 80 degrees.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Seattle Seahawks

  • Kickoff: 4:05 p.m. ET Sunday
  • Expected Temperature: Low-Mid 60s
  • Showers: 0% throughout
  • Wind: 8 mph Northerly

Conditions are expected to be slightly less summery at Lumen Field, where the Seattle Seahawks host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The temperature shouldn’t be a factor, and winds are expected to be below anything concerning.

Injuries (Mike Evans, Bucky Irving, Jamel Dean, Benjamin Morrison, Devon Witherspoon, Julian Love) are far more important factors to consider heading into this one; the weather should be fine.

Detroit Lions at Cincinnati Bengals

  • Kickoff: 4:25 p.m. ET Sunday
  • Expected Temperature: Low-Mid 80s
  • Showers: 0% throughout
  • Wind: 6 mph Southerly

Cincinnati Bengals fans may have been looking skyward for help since Joe Burrow’s injury in Week 2, but they won’t be geting any help from that direction this Sunday. The Detroit Lions head into Cincinnati having scored 124 points in their last three games and the conditions should be perfect at Paycor Stadium.

With Jake Browning set to start his third straight game, the warm, sunny weather might be the only thing Bengals fans get to enjoy this weekend.

New England Patriots at Buffalo Bills

  • Kickoff: 8:20 p.m. ET Sunday
  • Expected Temperature: Mid-High 60s
  • Showers: 1% throughout
  • Wind: 3 mph Southerly

Regardless of other results, the 4-0 Buffalo Bills will move three wins clear at the top of the AFC East with a win over the New England Patriots on Sunday.

The Patriots’ offense has been inconsistent, topping 30 points twice, while failing to reach 15 points in their other two games. The Bills, meanwhile, have the best offense in the NFL according to PFSN’s Offense Impact metric.

The Bills will look to continue their perfect start to the season, and have won their last three home games against New England. Their last home loss to the Patriots came in December 2021, when Mac Jones threw just three passes in 40mph winds, with the Patriots rushing 46 times for 222 yards and a score.

The conditions will be far less extreme this Sunday night, though, and shouldn’t play a part in your fantasy lineup decisions.

Kansas City Chiefs at Jacksonville Jaguars

  • Kickoff: 8:15 p.m. ET Monday
  • Expected Temperature: High 70s
  • Showers: 11% at kickoff, rising to 17%
  • Wind: 10 mph Easterly

After a fairly calm and sunny Sunday of football, Week 5 finishes with a slightly more precarious Monday Night matchup. The 2-2 Kansas City Chiefs head to EverBank Stadium to face the 3-1 Jacksonville Jaguars.

Rain and even thunderstorms are forecasted in Jacksonville throughout Monday, but the rain is expected to have stopped by kickoff. As it stands, nothing about the weather should be particularly impactful, but the winds and likelihood of rain are both higher than in any other game this week.

Jacksonville’s Cam Little is the 12th-best kicker in fantasy football this season (tied), and has been a regular streaming option. If you’re streaming a kicker this week, Little might be best avoided, given the far higher chance of bad weather on Monday night.

Travis Etienne Jr. is the only running back in this game who has produced in fantasy. However, the potential for rain could serve as a tie-breaker if you’re considering Isiah Pacheco, Kareem Hunt, or Bhayshul Tuten as a desperate flex this week.
