The Tampa Bay Buccaneers continue navigating life without their star receiver as they remain firmly in the playoff picture. Mike Evans has been on injured reserve since Week 7 with a broken collarbone. Will fantasy football managers see their top wideout return for the fantasy playoffs?

Mike Evans Injury Update
A hamstring issue during Week 3 forced Evans to miss three consecutive games before he attempted a comeback. His return came during the team’s Week 7 Monday night showdown with Detroit at Ford Field.
The comeback lasted less than a half as tragedy struck in the second quarter. A collision with Lions cornerback Rock Ya-Sin on a deep ball from Baker Mayfield resulted in a fractured collarbone for the six-time Pro Bowler. Evans landed shoulder-first before his head hit the turf, suffering the devastating injury.
Prior to exiting, Evans had drawn four targets from Mayfield without hauling in any catches in his first game action since the hamstring setback. He underwent surgery to repair the fractured collarbone, with doctors projecting a 6-8 week recovery window.
Ian Rapoport reported Wednesday that the Buccaneers will open Evans’ 21-day practice window. This represents a quicker than expected return from the broken clavicle, as Evans has been medically cleared.
Evans being ahead of schedule in his recovery is nothing new. He continues to be a quick healer, a trait he’s demonstrated throughout his career when dealing with injuries. The fact that he’s returning to practice just over seven weeks after surgery speaks to his remarkable recovery ability.
It’s too soon to say if Evans can play this week. Head coach Todd Bowles stated Monday that there’s a possibility practices this week, but did not comment on his potential availability for the game. However, the expectation should be that he returns no later than Week 15.
A Week 15 return would give Evans the full eight weeks of recovery from the surgery and allow the Buccaneers to evaluate whether he’s ready for contact. Tampa Bay’s playoff positioning means they will want Evans healthy for the stretch run if possible.
The Buccaneers have 21 days to activate Evans from injured reserve. Even if he doesn’t play in Week 14, he will practice this week and next before making his debut in Week 15. A two-week ramp-up period seems more realistic given the severity of his injury and extended absence.
It is worth noting that on Thursday, Ian Rapaport said there is a chance Evans plays this week.
Evans’ Fantasy Outlook
Tampa Bay is gradually getting healthier at the skill positions. Chris Godwin returned to action in Week 12 after missing significant time with his fibula injury, and his usage continues to grow as he gets healthier. Bucky Irving made his long-awaited return in Week 13 after missing two months with shoulder and foot injuries.
Evans is the last piece of the puzzle for the Buccaneers’ offense. Once he returns, Tampa Bay will have their complete arsenal of weapons available for the playoff push. The Buccaneers could be operating with a full offense for the first time all season when Evans is activated.

Emeka Egbuka continues drawing Baker Mayfield’s primary focus during Evans’ absence. The rookie has taken over the WR1 duties and absorbed elevated passing game opportunities, though his production has been inconsistent, largely due to Mayfield’s recent struggles.
Tight end Cade Otton saw his role grow within the offense while they were dealing with injuries. With everyone healthy, he will fade back into obscurity.
Fantasy managers who have held Evans through this prolonged absence are finally being rewarded for their patience. A late December activation is now all but certain, making Evans a must-hold for anyone competing in the fantasy playoffs.
For managers already locked into playoff spots with roster flexibility, Evans represents massive upside if he can return in Week 15 or 16. A healthy Evans is one of the NFL’s premier red zone threats and would immediately slot into fantasy lineups as a WR2 with WR1 upside.
However, temper expectations for Week 14. Even though Evans is practicing, it seems unlikely the Buccaneers would rush him back for this week’s game. Week 15 represents the more realistic target for his return to game action.
