The Buffalo Bills prepare for their Week 11 home matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with a minor concern at wide receiver. Khalil Shakir popped up on Wednesday’s practice report with a rib injury. Will fantasy football managers have the shifty slot man available this week?
Khalil Shakir Injury Update
Shakir was listed as limited on Wednesday’s practice report with a rib injury. This marks the first time the wide receiver has appeared on Buffalo’s injury report this season.
Obviously fantasy managers prefer players be fully healthy. However, Wednesday practices are largely meaningless, especially for veterans. Any slight issue is reason enough to hold teams out players if it’s at all concerning.
The fact that Shakir is practicing at all is a great sign. Rib injuries are usually a pain tolerance issue rather than something that prevents players from performing. While they can be fairly painful and make it difficult to breathe, reach arms overhead, and move quickly such as running or cutting, they rarely keep players out of games.
The Bills are already without tight end Dalton Kincaid, who is dealing with a hamstring injury. Buffalo needs Shakir available as their primary receiving option.
There is no cause for concern here regarding Shakir’s availability. Shakir should be fine to play Sunday against Tampa Bay.
Shakir leads the Bills in receptions and targets through 10 games. He takes a 45-457-3 receiving line on 58 targets into the Week 11 home matchup against the Buccaneers.
Shakir’s Fantasy Outlook
Shakir has been Josh Allen’s most reliable target this season, particularly with injuries decimating Buffalo’s receiving corps. The 25-year-old has recorded at least six receptions in four of the last five contests.
The matchup against Tampa Bay represents an excellent opportunity for Shakir to produce significant fantasy numbers. The Bucs defense has been vulnerable against opposing receivers this season, allowing the eighth-most schedule-adjusted fantasy points per game to wide receivers. With both teams boasting potent offenses, this sets up as a potential high-scoring affair that should provide ample opportunities for Shakir to contribute.

Shakir has emerged as Buffalo’s clear No. 1 receiver after entering the 2025 campaign in that role. He’s coming off a career-best 2024 season in which he tallied 76 catches for 821 yards and four touchdowns, all career-highs. His yardage and reception marks were tops on the Bills.
With Kincaid out, Shakir may see even more targets from Allen. The Bills will need to rely heavily on their slot receiver to move the ball through the air against Tampa Bay’s defense.
Fantasy managers should feel confident starting Shakir as a WR2 or flex option this week. The combination of his high target share, favorable matchup, and the fact that he’s practicing makes him a safe play despite the rib injury designation.
Monitor Friday’s practice report to confirm his status, but the expectation should be that Shakir plays without any significant limitations on Sunday.
