San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy has been a critical piece in many fantasy football lineups this season, but his status has become a major concern for Week 2 and beyond. The 25-year-old quarterback’s injury situation has evolved throughout the week, leaving fantasy managers uncertain about his availability and searching for alternative options at the quarterback position.
Brock Purdy Injury Update
One of the bigger injury surprises coming out of Week 1 was Purdy. The veteran quarterback didn’t miss a snap in the team’s opening win against the Seahawks, but popped up on the injury report Monday with a toe and shoulder injury. Head coach Kyle Shanahan stated that Purdy is a “long shot” to play Week 2 and could be out for multiple weeks.
“I think it’s a long shot.”

If Purdy is unable to play, Mac Jones would start for the 49ers against the New Orleans Saints. In 2024, the veteran quarterback completed 65.3% of his passes for 1,672 yards, eight touchdowns, and eight interceptions in 10 games with the Jaguars.

Purdy Fantasy Outlook
Purdy was far from perfect on Sunday in Seattle, but he completed 74.3% of his passes and had five rush attempts. That’s essentially what we’ve come to expect.
- Career: 16.72 fantasy points per game
- Week 1: 16.78 fantasy points
There are players like this at every position. The types that you can get by with if the rest of your team is strong, but won’t put you on their shoulders. When players like that are in a less-than-optimal situation, however, you’re generally wise to look elsewhere, and that’s the situation we have in San Francisco.

Not only is Purdy himself dealing with various injuries, but Jauan Jennings and George Kittle couldn’t finish Week 1. There may be a temptation to get cute with a Purdy stack, if he plays, in DFS under the premise that he’s facing the Saints at what figures to be a low ownership number, but I’m passing on that front and in all standard leagues.

Purdy’s uncertain health makes him too risky for fantasy managers — secure safer quarterback options while monitoring his status for future weeks.
