Jacksonville heads into their Week 13 home matchup against the Tennessee Titans hoping to build momentum toward a postseason berth. Brian Thomas Jr. has been sidelined for three games with an ankle injury. Will fantasy football managers finally see their top receiver return to action?
Brian Thomas Jr. Injury Update
The ankle problem occurred during Jacksonville’s Week 9 overtime win against Las Vegas when Thomas went down late in regulation and couldn’t continue into the extra period. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported it as a low-grade high ankle sprain, though even the “low-grade” label doesn’t diminish that these injuries demand considerable rest and recovery.
The second-year wideout has demonstrated steady improvement throughout his rehab process. He sat out all practice work before the team’s Week 10 divisional clash with Houston and got ruled that Friday.
Progress began materializing in Week 11 when Thomas got back on the practice field for three straight limited sessions leading up to the Chargers game. Despite that encouraging sign, Jacksonville opted for caution and kept him sidelined another week.
Week 12 brought more of the same, with Thomas logging limited participation all three days before the Cardinals matchup. He’s now practiced on a limited basis all three days for the past two weeks. But he hasn’t gotten in a full session. That appears to be what Jacksonville is waiting for before clearing him.
Initially given “a chance to play” without missing a game, Thomas has now been out for three contests. If he suits up in Week 13, it would mean he’s had four weeks to recover, which aligns much better with the typical 4-6 week timeline that accompanies high ankle sprains.
The only wrinkle in this is the fact that Thomas didn’t even draw a questionable tag last week. How did he go from questionable ahead of Week 11 to ruled out on Friday ahead of Week 12 without suffering a setback? It’s a question that only this week’s practice can answer.
High ankle sprains notoriously linger and hamper a player’s cutting and acceleration abilities. These injuries undermine the push-off mechanism that’s critical for wide receivers who depend on explosive breaks and precise route execution.
Thomas Fantasy Outlook
During Thomas’ absence, Parker Washington hasn’t seized the expanded opportunity. He’s failed to establish himself as a reliable option. His involvement in the passing game has been minimal and disappointing.
Washington’s role has diminished even further in recent weeks. Despite playing significant snaps, he’s barely been a factor in the offense, drawing very few targets from Trevor Lawrence.

Jakobi Meyers has emerged as the primary target in Thomas’ absence. The veteran, acquired from Las Vegas before the Week 10 trade deadline to address the depleted receiver corps, has provided a steady veteran presence and given Lawrence a reliable option in the intermediate passing game.
Tim Patrick has contributed as well, finding the end zone recently and providing depth to the rotation. However, the limited passing volume overall restricts opportunities across the entire receiving group.
When Thomas returns, he’ll immediately reclaim his spot as the unquestioned top target. His comeback will reduce everyone else’s involvement, particularly pushing Washington further down the pecking order. Thomas has flashed big-play capability when available, though consistency has eluded him this season with his struggles holding onto the football.
