What Ezekiel Elliott Signing Would Mean for New England Patriots

Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott is still on the market as a free agent, but that could change soon.

According to a report by Jordan Schultz, Elliott is meeting with the New England Patriots.

This would be Elliott’s first meeting with a team since being released from the Cowboys in March.

Could Ezekiel Elliott Work Well for the Patriots?

Although Elliott had a career-low 867 yards on 231 attempts in 2022, he still shined in red-zone and short-yardage situations.

In fact, Dallas was first in the league in red-zone scoring with a rate of 71.43%, as compared to New England’s 42.22%.

Elliott was not only tied in second for scoring among the Cowboys’ offense last season with 72 points, but he scored the most touchdowns on the team (12) and the second-most TDs in the red zone in the league.

Elliott works well in a running back room that takes the “1-2 punch” approach utilizing two running backs, and the Patriots are looking for a veteran presence to help boot up RB Rhamondre Stevenson.

The Patriots could utilize Elliott while ensuring they get a big-body player that can block as the cherry on top.

It is also widely known the type of leader Elliott is in the locker room, so helping a younger guy is right up his alley, as he did with Cowboys running back Tony Pollard during his rookie season in 2019.

It will be interesting to see if the Patriots can match the asking price that Elliott wants.

    Ezekiel Elliott’s Offseason

Although Elliott has not visited other teams this offseason, it hasn’t stopped him from working.

Not only has he gotten work in at the “Dak Yard” with quarterback Dak Prescott and some of his former teammates, but there have also been videos posted of him working out.
