When the Green Bay Packers need him the most, quarterback Jordan Love steps up. Even without star tight end Tucker Kraft and wide receivers Jayden Reed and Matthew Golden, Love has a pair of massive fourth-down throws that see the Packers leading the Detroit Lions at halftime. During his stellar performance, this former Packers QB made quite the comparison.

Kurt Benkert Compares Jordan Love to Aaron Rodgers
After Love threw his first touchdown pass of the day, former Packers QB2 Kurt Benkert posted the GIF of Rodgers saying he has ice in his veins.
He used the caption, “Jordan Love on criticial downs.”
Packers head coach Matt LaFleur, who some say is on the hot seat, took a page out of Lions head coach Dan Campbell’s playbook with how active he’s been in going for it on fourth down.
While a viral timeout/false start combination resulted in Green Bay scoring a touchdown, it’s essential to note that the Packers continually found themselves on fourth and short. MLF has plenty of confidence in his quarterback, and it’s paid off.

Even though the Packers’ defense allowed a late touchdown, they still lead, 17-14. Benkert has long been a big fan of Love’s work, constantly advocating for him even when he has down performances. Nowadays, those are few and far between. Love’s completion percentage may not be up to par against the Lions, but he’s made quite a few terrific throws that not many players in the league can make.
Coming into this game, Love was third in the league in PFSN’s QB Impact Metric. He’s doing what he can given the circumstances. Sure, a few of his top targets are out, but at least he still has players like Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs. Doubs hauled in yet another touchdown grab as Watson showed how great his hands are with a couple of key catches in the first half.
Green Bay would love to get the run game going more against the Lions, but they know there’s nothing wrong with relying on their $220 million quarterback. Even though the Packers already beat Detroit in Week 1, this is easily a game that could decide the fate of the NFC North. Love has been lights out in the first half, and his fourth-down touchdown throws were the icing on the cake.
Benkert has been out of the league for some time now, but he maintains a successful YouTube channel and frequently appears on podcasts and television programs to discuss all things football. He knows the Packers inside and out, having been on the team under Aaron Rodgers.
