Ex-NFL WR Breaks Down How George Pickens Will Have ‘Unbelievable’ Impact on Dak Prescott and Cowboys’ Offense

Former NFL wide receiver Harry Douglas gives his take on the contributions new Cowboys wideout George Pickens will make in his new offense.

George Pickens is entering the 2025 season as a member of the Dallas Cowboys after playing his first three NFL seasons in Pittsburgh. During his tenure as a Steeler, there were flashes of Pickens showcasing his abilities to potentially be the No. 1 receiver of the future, but also glimpses of his lack of maturity and inability to handle himself and his emotions on and off the field.

The Steelers traded for DK Metcalf to be their new No. 1 receiver, and Pickens has found himself a new home in Dallas with the Cowboys. In an offense led by the returning Dak Prescott, who already has a true top target in CeeDee Lamb, the question remains about how Pickens will fit in this offense and if he can help elevate it.

Former NFL Wide Receiver Believes George Pickens Will BeUnbelievablefor the Cowboys’ Offense

Speaking on “Get Up” hosted by ESPN’s Mike Greenberg, former NFL wide receiver Harry Douglas joined Mike Tannenbaum and Dan Graziano to discuss what Pickens’ contributions to the Cowboys’ offense may look like. Douglas had high praise and hopes for what Pickens will bring to Dallas’ air attack this upcoming season.

“This young man is gonna be unbelievable for this offense and also Dak Prescott. It’s gonna also take a lot of pressure off of CeeDee Lamb on the other side,” says Douglas.

Before handing out praise, Douglas was breaking down some highlights from Pickens’ time in Pittsburgh which demonstrated that Pickens possesses the skills to be a big-time playmaker in the NFL. Pickens finished his Steelers career with 2,841 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns on 174 catches. His best season thus far was in 2023, when he caught 63 passes for 1,140 yards and five touchdowns.

The Cowboys are inheriting quite the receiver in the 6’3” 200-pound former Georgia Bulldog. Douglas made an interesting point by saying that both Prescott and Lamb will benefit from the acquisition. The last time the Cowboys had a big-time player at the No. 2 receiver spot was 2021, when Amari Cooper was a Cowboy.

Since then, the Cowboys have struggled to find someone reliable and consistent opposite Lamb. The hope is that a player like Pickens will elevate Lamb’s game and Pickens himself, especially with a contract year coming up.

The Cowboys face plenty of pressure this year despite having a first-year head coach in Brian Schottenheimer. After running the team’s offense the last two seasons, the expectations are high, as usual. Now, with Pickens in the mix, fans and Jerry Jones will have their eyes fixed on this team’s improvement as the new arrival looks to prove his value with free agency looming next offseason.
