Micah Parsons, Dak Prescott, and CeeDee Lamb were lumped into the same bucket of extension troubles facing Jerry Jones in 2024. However, with Prescott and Lamb’s situation long settled, Parsons has become the last of the three to get his new deal.
Even a year after the problem was identified, there has been little movement. One NFL analyst called for the general manager to make the smart move with Parsons as summer arrives.
Jerry Jones Dragging His Feet on Micah Parsons Causes More Problems Than It’s Worth
Speaking on a June 5 edition of “Get Up,” NFL analyst Dominique Foxworth used the cap to explain why Jones needs to sign Parsons as soon as possible.
“There really is no advantage to waiting to pay Micah Parsons. The fifth-year option makes his cap number jump up to $24 million. And if you think about it, once you sign the extension, the cap number goes down. Myles Garrett’s cap number is lower than Micah Parsons’ right now, so there’s no reason why they should hold on to Micah Parsons without giving an extension because it hurts the team every way you look at it.”
Of course, Jones has made a habit of being slow to the punch when it comes to the Dallas Cowboys. The pattern has continued to Parsons, but it was far from unexpected.
Jones’ Lackluster Response to Cowboys’ Problems Raises Anxiety in Texas
In his history, Jones has been the definition of thrifty. Whether it has been turning over the keys to fourth-round pick Prescott after finding Tony Romo as an undrafted free agent, or any other significant moves done on a discount, Jones doesn’t break the bank much.
While he has always been thrifty, his ability to respond with a sense of urgency and spend the correct amount in the right places in proportion to need has suffered in the minds of many.
This offseason, the Cowboys’ 23rd-best Offense+ rating by PFSN leaves plenty of room for improvement. However, one of the clearest spots was at running back. Fresh off the Ezekiel Elliott era, which demonstrated how necessary a solid premium running back is, Jones went frugal in the 2025 NFL Draft, waiting until late in the event to draft two running backs.
He also notably added Javonte Williams, but in many cases, three cheaper or lower-graded players don’t create one franchise running back. If Jones decided against investing big in the running backs, Cowboys fans might settle for locking up Parsons long-term.
Will Jones oblige?

a Dallas Cowboys fan, since the 70’s as a Cowboys fan, I’m not shocked Jerry Jones will play games when giving player new contracts
