Following a 10-year career in the NFL, quarterbacking teams such as the Vikings, Saints, and, most recently, the Lions, journeyman signal-caller Teddy Bridgewater went from playing to coaching. Now, he’s fighting to keep the job after his own Facebook post got him suspended.

The former first-round pick thought he was helping his players at Miami Northwestern (MNW) High School, but the Florida High School Athletic Association saw it differently.

What Did Teddy Bridgewater’s Facebook Post Reveal About His Coaching Methods, Suspension?

Following his transition from the NFL after the 2023 season, Teddy Bridgewater took over as head coach at his alma mater, Miami Northwestern High School. The 32-year-old allegedly helped players with Uber costs, meals, and recovery services, as detailed in a July 7 Facebook post.

In the post, the former first-round pick describes how he spent money on these items out of his own pocket and is looking for donations for the upcoming season.

The 6’2″ quarterback wrote, “THIS ISN’T A CRY OUT FOR HELP, but more so a coach seeking out donations.” However, his candor in the post led to his suspension from the school, something Bridgewater refuses to accept.

The Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) flagged Bridgewater’s post and took action. Rivals sportswriter Andy Villamarzo describes that other schools have been hit hard for such actions in the past.

How Is Bridgewater Responding to His Suspension From Miami Northwestern?

The quarterback took to Facebook to share his thoughts after the situation concluded. His response shows that he’s not backing down from the fight.

“D*** people done caused all this confusion,” said Bridgewater. “Got a phone call tonight and it’s no real investigation going on.. I told you I have to be an employee to be investigated. Now the paperwork thing still stands, but there was no investigation… We SELF REPORTED…”

Bridgewater continued, “Verne and his Administrative homeboys want me gone apparently and tried to hire one of my dawgs like bro wasn’t gone lace me up… The suspension came from MNW, and it’s impossible to suspend someone who doesn’t work for you. So if I’m suspended from MNW, I’m free to go to another school of my choice, but IM NOT GOING ANYWHERE.”

The quarterback is so determined to stay that he refuses to leave the school, to the point of claiming he will coach from the stands.

“And if it comes down to it, I will volunteer from the bleachers like I used to in 2018 and 2019 when no one had a problem,” said Bridgewater. “This [sic] my last post about this bs.”

As Bridgewater voices his frustrations, no further information has been released regarding the state of Miami Northwestern and any additional punishment.

Following the suspension, fellow ex-NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III came to Bridgewater’s defense via an X post.

“He got suspended for taking care of his players when they were in need, teaching them how to take care of their bodies and giving them the necessities to help them chase their dreams for a brighter future,” said Griffin III. “Not cheating. Not stealing. Just caring. He gave them the tools to chase a better future and is getting punished for it.”

Griffin III concludes, saying, “Suspending Teddy Bridgewater isn’t justice. It’s punishing love, leadership, and sacrifice.”

The support comes as Bridgewater’s coaching success speaks for itself. In his first year with Miami Northwestern, the 10-year NFL veteran led his team to a state championship. With an outpouring of support for Bridgewater’s decisions, the question remains whether his care and coaching skills will propel him to a new role.
