Former NFL MVP Cam Newton didn’t hold back after New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart admitted he was “puzzled” by his frequent trips to the blue medical tent following hits.
Reacting to Dart’s comments after an August 2026 preseason hit against the Minnesota Vikings, Newton slammed the second-year quarterback for taking his repeated head safety evaluations lightly.

Newton latched onto Dart’s choice of words, warning the young signal-caller that repeated head impacts are no laughing matter and that independent medical spotters are trying to protect his long-term cognitive health.
“You’re talking about puzzle? We’re trying to make sure that you’re still able to complete a puzzle,” Newton said. “Because boy, do you still have all the pieces of your puzzle… I’m puzzled that an organization is not taking your health serious.”
“Every time you find a way to get hit, it ain’t just a soft hit; it’s a puzzling hit,” Newton added. “When are we going to start taking this person serious? On the field and off the field.”
Newton stressed that, regardless of Dart’s personal frustration, his physical playstyle and growing medical file mean he will be under intense scrutiny every time he absorbs a heavy blow.

Dart’s Blue Tent Track Record
There is also a clear reason for the increased attention surrounding Dart. During his rookie season in 2025, he was evaluated for a concussion five times. One of those evaluations resulted in a diagnosed concussion that forced him to miss two games.
That history has continued into the 2026 preseason.

During the Giants’ preseason opener against Minnesota, Dart took a hard hit from Vikings safety Jay Ward and was sent to the blue medical tent for another evaluation. It marked his sixth trip to the tent in roughly a year.
Dart ultimately cleared the evaluation and returned to the game, even throwing a touchdown pass on his next drive. Still, the frequency of the evaluations has caught the attention of people around the league.
Giants head coach John Harbaugh has defended the medical staff’s approach, citing Dart’s history as grounds for extra caution whenever the young quarterback takes a significant hit.
For Dart, who ranked 23rd last season on PFN’s QB Impact Rankings, the challenge is likely to continue. His willingness to make plays with his legs and absorb contact can be an asset, but it also means every major hit will draw additional scrutiny.
Newton’s message is simple: Dart may be frustrated by the constant evaluations, but when it comes to head injuries, being cautious is far more important than staying on the field.
