‘Mike Vrabel Can’t Lead Himself, How Can He Lead the Patriots?’ — Ex-NFL LB Rips HC After Latest Bombshell in Dianna Russini Scandal

New details in the Mike Vrabel-Dianna Russini saga prompted Emmanuel Acho to question whether he can still lead the Patriots.

The Mike Vrabel and Dianna Russini saga just got a whole lot messier. A new set of photos has emerged, and now, one of football’s most outspoken voices is asking the question everyone is thinking.

Emmanuel Acho Says Mike Vrabel’s Leadership Credibility Is Falling Apart

Former NFL linebacker Emmanuel Acho came out swinging after TMZ dropped a bombshell report this week. According to the outlet, Vrabel and Russini rented a boat together in June 2021, while Russini was pregnant with her first child.

TMZ says it obtained photos of the two signing a company waiver for the rental in Putnam County, Tennessee. A source with direct knowledge told the outlet they were the only two people on board for the two-to-three-hour trip.

Photos emerged last month showing Russini and Vrabel hugging and holding hands at a private resort in Arizona.

Both downplayed it. Since then, tabloids have dug up images of the two gambling at a casino in 2024 and apparently kissing at a bar in 2020. Now this. A boat trip in 2021. While she was pregnant. Both married.

Acho did not hold back. “Mike Vrabel got to catch hella heat at this point in time,” he said, “because if you can’t lead yourself, how can you lead a group of men?”

He went further. Acho called this “no longer a mistake” but rather “continued willing wild action.” His argument was simple but pointed. How do you ask 53 men to follow your off-field guidance when your own off-field conduct is what it is?

“How can you expect all 53 to adhere to the off-field advice of a man who for a minimum six years continued in a wildly disrespectful relationship to his wife, his kids, her husband, her pregnant child and herself?” Acho said.

That is the core of it. Vrabel’s football brain is not in question. His coaching resume speaks for itself. But leadership is not just about what happens between the lines. It never has been.

TMZ also noted that Vrabel and Russini appeared cautious about being photographed during the boat rental. Russini reportedly declined to take any photos with staff at all. Vrabel agreed to one picture but allegedly asked that it not be posted publicly.

A week after the trip, Russini posted a photo on Instagram from a New Jersey beach. The caption read, “Lucky to have great people to spend this holiday with this July.” Russini gave birth later that summer.

Since the story broke wider, Russini has resigned from The Athletic. Vrabel, now the head coach of the New England Patriots, missed the third day of the NFL Draft. His absence was described as for “counseling.”

Acho put it plainly: “You’re on a boat while married with another married woman who is pregnant. We don’t know who’s the father, so I won’t assume. And you doing this in the midst of your coaching tenure.”

He’s right that Vrabel’s on-field acumen is a separate conversation entirely. Nobody is debating whether the man can coach football. The debate is about character, credibility, and what kind of standard a head coach sets for his locker room.
