Rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart suffered a concussion during the New York Giants’ 24-20 loss to the Chicago Bears in Week 10. In the third quarter, Dart snapped the ball and took off on a designed QB run. After gaining just over ten yards, Bears safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson aggressively stopped the Ole Miss product.
However, Dart was not evaluated immediately after the incident. With the NFL doing its best to prevent head injuries around the league, who failed in this instance?
Finger Pointing Begins Following Dart Injury Evaluation
There is no question that the Giants’ 2025 first-round draft choice is a fierce competitor, having been evaluated for a concussion four times in his rookie campaign. With Dart’s edge must come a watchful eye from the NFL and its spotters.
According to NFL.com, spotters can be defined as, “Another set of eyes, watching for potential injuries from inside a stadium booth high above the field.”
With players and coaches alike immediately noticing the severity of Dart’s injury, one former NFL coach who was in attendance is shocked. NFL insider Josina Anderson says she received a text during the Giants-Bears brawl from an ex-NFL coach, who did not hold back on the situation.
“I think spotter should be fired, and they turned their back to it on sidelines,” the unidentified former head coach said. “Even after being fined.”
Here is what a former NFL Head Coach who was at the #Giants #Bears game texted me about how things unfolded after Jaxson Dart got hurt & what should happen:

In Anderson’s X post, a video shows Giants’ backup quarterback Russell Wilson answering when he knew he might need to enter the game.
“After that drive, that Jaxson went down, I was trying to be prepared to go,” said Wilson. “He made a great effort trying to make a play, a good job trying to be tough, I just was prepared. You always have to be ready to go, and so I felt like I was really ready to go.”
With Wilson seemingly aware of the collision’s severity, is the former NFL coach correct in saying that a firing should be in order?
Dart Playing Enormous Role in Giants’ Run-Game With Rookie RB Already Sidelined
Rookie running back Cam Skattebo suffered a season-ending ankle injury against the Philadelphia Eagles earlier this season, leaving a massive hole in New York’s backfield.
With the Arizona State body-banger sidelined, many believed a backfield by committee between Tyrone Tracy Jr. and Devin Singletary would be the play; however, it has been Dart stealing the spotlight.
Using PFSN’s QB Impact metric, we see Dart tally some of the highest rushing statistics amongst eligible gunslingers.
The 22-year-old has rushed 57 times in his rookie campaign, the fifth most out of NFL QBs. His 317 rush yards and seven rushing touchdowns rank him second and first, respectively. The run-heavy scheme shows Dart receiving 32 designed QB runs thus far, tying him for first with New York Jets quarterback Justin Fields.
With a clear emphasis on getting their young star involved in the run game, is New York at fault for allowing the reckless play to go further on?
With looming contests against the Green Bay Packers and Detroit Lions, the Giants will hope to get Dart back sooner rather than later. However, they haven’t announced a return timeline for the rookie yet.
