‘Get in the Damn End Zone’ — Ex-NFL HC Rips Adonai Mitchell After Colts WR’s ‘Selfish’ Mistake vs. Rams

This ex-NFL head coach had no issue putting Indianapolis Colts WR Adonai Mitchell on blast for his crucial mistake in their first loss.

A massive mistake from Indianapolis Colts WR Adonai Mitchell is arguably the reason why the Colts weren’t able to start their season 4-0. After celebrating far too early, Mitchell dropped the ball and cost his team a touchdown. Now, the Colts sit at 3-1 after falling, 27-20, to the 3-1 Los Angeles Rams. ESPN’s “Get Up” crew obliterated Mitchell’s decision as this ex-NFL head coach was dumbfounded.

Rex Ryan Blasts Indianapolis Colts WR Adonai Mitchell For His Costly Fumble

There’s no room to leave points on the table in a game that was decided by one score. Mitchell knows that, but he got too far ahead of himself as his celebration may have cost the team their undefeated season. Plenty of other variables went into it, but there’s no doubt Mitchell left a touchdown on the board.

“I mean, it’s just selfish. That’s all it is,” Rex Ryan said. “Why do you have to celebrate before you get in the end zone? Is that cool? Get in the damn end zone! Do that crap at the end of it, the second pylon. Why the hell does this happen? We’ve seen it; it’s not just this young man. It’s happened to others. Get in the zone.”

While Ryan hasn’t been a head coach since 2016, he’s remained heavily involved in football. His takes keep fans’ attention, as the 2000 Super Bowl Champion knows a thing or two about the game. Having been the head coach of the New York Jets and Buffalo Bills, Ryan’s reaction is entirely justified, as Mitchell would’ve faced his wrath on the sideline.

Ultimately, Mitchell led the team with his three receptions for 96 yards. A massive 75-yard reception could’ve been the difference maker, but instead the Colts are stuck dealing with their first loss of the season. QB Daniel Jones may have thrown two interceptions, but he still has an A grade in PFSN’s QB Impact. The change of scenery has greatly benefited Jones who’s contributions cannot be understated.

Through the first four weeks, Mitchell has seven receptions for 137 yards. His three receptions against the Rams were the most he’s had this season. Coming off a week where he didn’t have a catch, this was the perfect rebound game for the 22-year-old. At the end of the day, he faced the harsh reality of being an NFL player and all of the responsibilities that come with it.
