Ex-Chiefs OL Reveals What Could Get HC Andy Reid ‘Fired’ As Kansas City Nears Elimination From Playoff Contention

A former Chiefs player shockingly suggests that Andy Reid could be fired if the head coach doesn't make specific changes in the offseason.

Andy Reid has achieved considerable success in his 13 years as the head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs. He has only missed the playoffs once, alongside his five AFC Championships and three Super Bowl rings. This apparently is not enough to guarantee his job security, as a former Chiefs player pointed out exactly what could get him fired.

Andy Reid Given Ultimatum from Former Chiefs Player

Geoff Schwartz is a former offensive lineman who played one season with the Chiefs and now serves as an NFL analyst. He recently replied to a fan on X who was speculating that the franchise is wasting Patrick Mahomes’ prime amid their massively disappointing 2025 NFL season.

He suggested that firings may be a solution, and Schwartz described what Reid has to do to remain their head coach.

“Andy Reid has to make staff changes on offense this offseason. If he doesn’t, he will be fired (or retire). Not that complicated,” explained Schwartz.

The head coach has helped the Chiefs reach the playoffs in each of the past ten seasons, with each of the past nine also including an AFC West division championship.

Their streak of division titles officially came to an end when they were defeated in Week 14 by the Houston Texans on Sunday Night Football. The loss also dropped them to a 6-7 record, so they are in legitimate danger of missing the playoffs.

The Denver Broncos already have 11 wins this season, which is more than the 10 the Chiefs would have if they win all of their remaining games. This would improve them to a 10-7 record, which still may not be good enough to earn one of the Wild Card spots.

Four teams ahead of them in the Wild Card race already have eight or more wins following Week 14, with four games to go.

All that Reid has accomplished as their head coach may lead some to believe that Reid is immune to potential offseason changes, especially if they do, in fact, miss the playoffs.

However, apparently, Schwartz is not one of them. He directly stated that if Reid doesn’t make changes to his own offensive coaching staff, he will be the one who makes the changes for the Chiefs.

They have been mediocre on offense this year, especially by their standards, currently sitting in eighth place in PFSN’s Impact Rankings. Matt Nagy is his offensive coordinator, but this pairing may need to be broken up, based on what Schwartz predicts for his former team.
