Ex-NFL LB Blames Ravens HC John Harbaugh’s Questionable Decisions for Baltimore Missing Playoffs: ‘He’s Got To Go’

An NFL analyst thinks that the reason for the Baltimore Ravens lost against the Pittsburgh Steelers completely centers around the head coach.

After the Baltimore Ravens missed a last-second field goal, ending their season, questions surround the franchise’s future. The offseason provides management with an opportunity to evaluate every role on the team, signaling the potential for change.

Why Does a Former NFL LB Believe the Ravens Should Fire HC John Harbaugh?

For the second time in five seasons, the Ravens ended with more losses than wins, missing the playoffs. Acho, who played 20 NFL games, argues that the Baltimore Ravens need a significant overhaul, citing the team’s inability to compete at a high level as the primary reason for change.

“Does anyone have a nail, because Harbaugh got a coffin? It’s got to be Harbaugh. Derrick Henry had 126 yards on 20 carries. It’s second-and-two, and the Steelers don’t have any timeouts. You’re on about the 46. Just hand the ball off. Lamar Jackson makes right what Harbaugh does wrong. With 12 seconds and you have a timeout, you have Lamar Jackson take a knee. You got a future first-ballot Hall of Famer in Derrick Henry; run the ball.”

Acho’s point is clear when examining the final moments. With 12 seconds, the Ravens had one play to get closer for an easier field goal. A 44-yard kick isn’t long, but Acrisure Stadium is known for swirling, unpredictable winds, especially near the end zones. Kicking in those conditions is hard, and for a rookie kicker under pressure, the challenge increases.

Rookie Tyler Loop made 90.6% of field goal attempts. Inside 50 yards, he was perfect on 28 tries. But in those conditions, he may have overcompensated. The ball sliced away from the center, veering like a baseball slider, and ended up right of the goalpost.

Acho’s point about Henry carrying the ball makes sense. With 12 seconds and a timeout, Henry, who had already broken several long runs, could gain positive yardage, turning a 44-yard kick into one from 38. Those extra 18 feet could mean everything. Henry ranked fifth in PFSN’s NFL RB Impact Rankings.

With another disappointing season, the Ravens likely seek change. Jackson turns 30 next year. Given his playing style and injury history, management must consider how much he has left in this offense. The defense gave up the fourth-most passing yards and recorded just 28 sacks, allowing opponents to settle in.

The team cannot make wholesale player changes due to salary caps and the presence of dead money. After 18 seasons, and a dozen since their last Super Bowl, Harbaugh remains the one constant management might consider replacing.
