A Sunday Night Football clash between the Los Angeles Rams and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers seemed like a fantastic idea on paper. However, when the two sides came to blows in Week 12, it was unfortunately about as one-sided as a game could get in the NFL.
An injury-ravaged Buccaneers roster could not compete with what had arguably been the most complete team in the league this season. As a result, the Rams were able to build a spectacular 31-7 lead, with the Buccaneers, especially star wide receiver Emeka Egbuka, struggling to get into second gear.
What Happened to Emeka Egbuka?
One of the lone bright spots on an otherwise brutal year for Tampa Bay, Egbuka was the first-round pick who was keeping the team afloat as they battled various injuries to the entire offensive unit.
The offensive line was consistently in shambles, Bucky Irving hadn’t been seen since Week 4, while Mike Evans and Chris Godwin had played in six games combined. Through it all, their rookie wide receiver had emerged as a true superstar.
Tallying 717 receiving yards, he led all rookies with six receiving touchdowns through 10 games, as he ranked 25th on PFSN’s WR Impact. However, against a top-five defense in the Rams, he was unable to make any contribution to his team.
Instead, as Tampa Bay stuttered to less than 125 total yards of offense, Egbuka was nowhere to be found. Despite four targets and two receptions to his name, he hadn’t added or lost any yards of offense.
Instead, he’d gone forward by three yards on one catch, and given those three yards away on another.
