Eliot Wolf Claims Patriots ‘Don’t Want To Close the Door’ on Reuniting With Stefon Diggs

Eliot Wolf refuses to rule out a Stefon Diggs reunion, keeping the door open as the Patriots seek a No. 1 wide receiver.

The New England Patriots still do not sound fully settled at wide receiver. Eliot Wolf, the Patriots’ executive vice president of player personnel, left the door open this week to a possible reunion with Stefon Diggs. The comment reflects where the Patriots still stand as they work through their options at the position.

Eliot Wolf Discusses Potential Stefon Diggs Reunion

During an appearance on “Up & Adams” from the NFL Owners Meetings in Orlando, Wolf was asked by Kay Adams whether the Patriots had fully moved on from Diggs. Wolf did not definitively say the team had.

“I never like to rule anything out,” Wolf said. “There’s always different scenarios that come up, whether you have an injury or, you know, a scheme shift or whatever the case may be, so don’t want to close the door on anything.”

That answer does not point to an immediate reunion, but it also does not sound like a team treating the situation as finished. From the Patriots’ perspective, that makes sense. Diggs was released for financial and off-field reasons, but his production remains difficult to replace.

In his lone season with the Patriots, Diggs caught 85 passes for 1,013 yards and remained the focal point of the passing game. According to PFSN’s Wide Receiver Impact Metric, Diggs ranked fourth among all NFL wide receivers in 2025. Teams do not move on from that level of production unless they believe they have a clear replacement in place.

Right now, the Patriots do not have that. Wolf’s comment probably says more about where the Patriots still are at receiver than it does about Diggs himself. The position group still feels unfinished, and part of that stems from the unresolved A.J. Brown situation.

Wolf addressed Brown in the same interview and downplayed the idea that the Patriots is actively pursuing a trade, saying the team has not had conversations about it “in a long time.” That may be accurate. It does not mean the Patriots are fully set at the position.

If Brown is not moving, and if the draft does not produce an immediate top option, Diggs remains one of the few proven receivers still available. That is what this is really about. The Patriots signed Romeo Doubs, but that move alone does not replace what Diggs provided or what he meant for Drake Maye’s development.

Diggs gave the Patriots a high-volume target who could separate and handle top coverage. So while Wolf did not hint at a reunion, he also did not speak like the option is off the table. That leaves the Patriots in a familiar spot. They are still looking for answers at wide receiver, and until they find one, Diggs remains part of the conversation.
