The Philadelphia Eagles are not playing around. The trade deadline is on Tuesday, and the Eagles are making sure to take advantage of their opportunities by bolstering their roster. They’ve already added two cornerbacks, Michael Carter II and Jaire Alexander, but wanted to add to their pass rush and did just that. Early on Monday morning, they notched their third trade of the past week, as they acquired Jaelan Phillips from the Dolphins.
Eagles Trade for Jaelan Phillips
The Eagles acquired Phillips in exchange for a 2026 third-round pick. Philadelphia was looking for help in the pass rush after addressing the cornerback spot. The Dolphins are going to be an interesting destination as a potential fire sale looms. The Eagles took advantage and poached one of their pass rushers.

Philadelphia has their eyes set on repeating as Super Bowl champions and GM Howie Roseman is doing everything that he can to get them back to the big game.
The Eagles are getting something from this trade even if Phillips decides to leave in the offseason. Phillips is set to hit the open market at the end of the season and might not decide to stay in Philadelphia beyond 2025. NFL insider Field Yates reported that the Phillips will count as a potential 2027 compensatory selection for Philadelphia if he leaves.
Yes, Jaelen Phillips will count towards the compensatory formula for the Eagles.
If this turns out to be just a rental, Phillips could fetch Philly a 2027 compensatory pick. https://t.co/Bp8ma8N8gZ

The Eagles will either be getting Phillips for the long haul or coming away with a draft pick. That’s not a bad consolation prize for a potential rental pass rusher, although a third-round pick is not a cheap price to pay.
A Closer Look at the Dolphins and Eagles Trade
After ranking second in the league on PFSN’s Defense Impact last season, the Eagles had taken a major step back to begin this season. A plethora of roster moves in the offseason were unfortunately not panning out, as they fell all the way to 16th in the standings.
One major area of concern for the franchise was at the EDGE spot, where no player on the roster ranked higher in our EDGE impact rankings than Jalyx Hunt at 36. With the lack of a pass rush, it had been easy for players like Matthew Stafford, Bo Nix, and Jaxson Dart to put up big numbers against the Eagles.
But a concentrated effort to improve the unit back to its last season standing may have culminated with the biggest swing of the season so far, as they added Phillips to the roster. With injuries ruining the last two seasons for him, a healthy 2025 had to give hope for Philly that the 2021 first-round pick could find his early career form again, when he had 22 sacks in 42 games.
Phillips has shown significant improvement in his pass rush effectiveness over the past three seasons. In 2025, he ranks 18th out of 89 qualified edge rushers with a pressure rate of 14.7% and ranks 12th in quick pressure rate (time to throw under 2.5 seconds) at 9.4%. He is also a force in the run game, ranking 33rd this season in tackles for a loss.
The most exciting part of this trade is that he no longer has to do it on his own, as Philadelphia boasts a litany of talent along the defensive line. This rings particularly true for the interior, where Jalen Carter should unlock Phillips in a way he hasn’t seen yet.
