The Philadelphia Eagles hired former NFL QB Sean Mannion as their offensive coordinator. Learn more about the newest hire in Philly.

The Philadelphia Eagles made a change on offense by firing offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo. After falling from a Super Bowl appearance to a disappointing offensive regression, the organization felt it had little choice.

Following interviews with multiple candidates, the Eagles have identified their next offensive coordinator in Sean Mannion, hiring him away from a recent playoff opponent.

Eagles Hire Sean Mannion

Mannion spent last season with the Green Bay Packers as the quarterbacks coach. He interviewed twice with the Eagles before ultimately deciding to accept the position in Philadelphia.

Mannion, 33, is a former NFL quarterback who played for the St. Louis and Los Angeles Rams, as well as the Minnesota Vikings. He attended Foothill High School in California, where he excelled on the field as a three-star recruit before committing to Oregon State University.

He redshirted his freshman year in college and later became the Beavers’ starting quarterback. Over four seasons, Mannion threw for 13,600 yards and 83 touchdowns, leaving Oregon State as the program’s all-time leader in passing yards. His collegiate success led to his selection in the third round of the NFL draft by the St. Louis Rams.

During his professional playing career, Mannion spent time behind quarterbacks such as Nick Foles and Case Keenum and never emerged as a consistent starter. He finished his career with one touchdown pass in 14 games. While his playing career was limited, he has since been part of productive Green Bay offenses as a coach.

Mannion will now be tasked with maximizing the talent on the Eagles’ roster, which includes Super Bowl MVP quarterback Jalen Hurts, running back Saquon Barkley and wide receivers A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith.

Head coach Nick Sirianni expressed optimism about the hire following last season’s offensive struggles.

“I was expressed by his systematic views on offensive football and strategic approach. Sean’s 11 years in the NFL have provided him a great opportunity to learn from and grow alongside some of the best coaches in the game,” said Sirianni.

The Eagles were No. 16 in PFSN’s Offense Impact Metric last season with a grade of 74.6. Mannion was part of the No. 7-ranked offense in Green Bay, making the hire a potentially encouraging move given his exposure to one of the league’s top units. He will also have significantly more offensive talent at his disposal.

However, Mannion enters the role without prior experience as an offensive coordinator. This will be his first opportunity to run an offense, and it may take time for him to settle into the position.

While Philadelphia fans may be impatient, the Eagles’ Super Bowl aspirations remain intact. Mannion will be expected to generate results quickly and help guide the offense back to championship contention.
