The A.J. Brown trade saga might finally come to an end this week, as the Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver is expected to find a new home ahead of the 2026 season. Brown is said to have been seeking an exit from Philly for a while now, and his wish could finally come true. One Eagles legend, though, is emotional about the potential change.
Eagles Legend Darius Slay Is Emotional About WR A.J. Brown’s Potential Departure
Brown was an integral part of Philadelphia’s success over the last four years, having been along for the ride as the Eagles avenged their Super Bowl 57 defeat to the Kansas City Chiefs with a Super Bowl 59 win over them. The ride, however, seems to have come to an end, with the New England Patriots rumored to be interested in the wideout.
Former Eagles cornerback Darius Slay, who spent five years in Philadelphia and built a close relationship with Brown, expressed his feelings about the receiver possibly starting a new chapter elsewhere.
“Today might be a sad day for my Eagles,” he posted, expecting that Brown could get traded today.

As June 1 marks the NFL’s deadline for spreading dead cap hits across two seasons, it serves as a pivot point for teams looking to trade players while minimizing financial collateral. Since Brown is currently on a three-year extension worth $96 million, the Eagles would very much want to avoid as much collateral as possible.
The Patriots have often surfaced in the rumor mill regarding a potential trade for Brown. The Seattle Seahawks completely outplayed them in the Super Bowl, but New England will still be a contender in 2026. They’ve got a well-balanced roster that still needs a star to lead the receiver room, and Brown would slot nicely into that role.
The Los Angeles Rams were also reportedly in the running for Brown earlier in the offseason. However, a deal is unlikely to materialize despite the team’s aim of being all-in for the Super Bowl because Matthew Stafford is already 38.

They’ve already added two-time Super Bowl champions Trent McDuffie and Jaylen Watson this offseason, and there’s reason to believe they’re not done spending yet, with rumors about Myles Garrett looming.
Brown’s seven years in the NFL equipped him with experience that’ll be valuable in virtually any system. Having booked an 80.9 PFSN WR Impact score last year, it’ll be interesting to see which suitor is the most aggressive with their offer.
