The Philadelphia Eagles entered the 2025 season with one clear goal: defending their Super Bowl title. Early on, they looked capable of doing just that, but mounting offensive inconsistencies derailed their momentum and ultimately ended their run with a 23–19 Wild Card loss to the San Francisco 49ers.
Now, as the Eagles turn their attention to the 2026 NFL offseason, major questions are already surfacing about the roster’s future. Recent developments out of Philadelphia have raised eyebrows across the league, with reports indicating that two Pro Bowl offensive linemen are seriously considering retirement following a turbulent season.
Eagles’ Offensive Line Faces Uncertain Future
The Eagles’ offense has been a major driver of the team’s success over the years, with the unit ranking 14th in PFSN’s NFL Offensive Line Impact Metric this past season. However, the group now faces significant uncertainty following the departure of longtime offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland, who took over in 2013 and was named run game coordinator in 2018, and reportedly vacated the position after a falling out with head coach Nick Sirianni.
Stoutland’s exit has only intensified questions surrounding the future of the offensive line, with right tackle Lane Johnson and left guard Landon Dickerson both reportedly contemplating retirement, according to longtime Eagles reporter Jeff McLane.
“In terms of Lane and his future, here’s what I can say: He’s definitely not sure if he’s coming back or not, is the impression I get. You would think maybe this would make it a little less likely,” McLane said. “When you’re looking at retirement, it’s, ‘Can my body do it again? Do I want to do it again? Lane has a very high standard for himself.”

Johnson, 35, has spent his entire NFL career with Philadelphia after being selected fourth overall in the 2013 NFL Draft. A six-time Pro Bowler and two-time All-Pro, he has been the anchor of the Eagles’ offensive line for more than a decade. However, a November injury sidelined him late in the season, and he was unable to fully recover in time for Philadelphia’s Wild Card loss.
While Johnson’s potential retirement could be attributed to age and wear and tear, Dickerson’s situation is more surprising. At just 27 years old and five seasons into his career, the Pro Bowl guard is also weighing his future.
“Landon Dickerson may be even more of a question mark,” McLane said.
Dickerson, who has played just one season of his four-year, $84 million contract, has earned three Pro Bowl selections in his first five seasons, though injuries have taken a toll. Despite McLane noting that Dickerson is currently “healthy and fine,” the lineman acknowledged the physical grind following the Wild Card loss.
Dickerson told reporters he had played through “a lot” this season, describing the year as “s-tty” in terms of injury struggles compared to previous campaigns, during which he appeared in at least 14 games each season.
Losing both Johnson and Dickerson in the same offseason would be a massive blow to Philadelphia’s offensive line and would likely force the team to invest significant draft capital to stabilize the unit ahead of the 2026 NFL season. However, neither retirement decision is finalized, and for now, Eagles fans can hold onto some optimism as the situation continues to develop.
