Dallas Goedert has long been a dependable presence in the Philadelphia Eagles’ offense, thriving as a dual-threat tight end in both the passing and running game.
However, with recurring durability concerns, his long-term future in Philadelphia is beginning to draw scrutiny. And as the Eagles prepare for the 2026 offseason, speculation is building around whether the team could pursue a marquee All-Pro tight end in free agency.
Contract Uncertainty Around Dallas Goedert Could Push Philadelphia To Target An All-Pro
Per the latest report, the Atlanta Falcons tight end Kyle Pitts could get traded to the Eagles. A Philadelphia native, Pitts could view the Eagles as an ideal opportunity for a homecoming. With Sean Mannion set to take over play-calling duties as offensive coordinator in 2026, the team may look to further strengthen Jalen Hurts’ arsenal with additional dynamic pass-catching weapons.
On the other hand, star tight end Goedert’s future with the Eagles is becoming increasingly uncertain as the team approaches another pivotal contract decision at the tight end position.
The veteran reworked his deal in 2025, agreeing to a revised one-year contract worth $10 million after originally being set to earn $14.25 million in the final season of his four-year, $57 million extension signed in 2021. That restructure kept him in Philadelphia through 2025.

But his deal is now nearing its end, with Goedert set to become an unrestricted free agent in 2026. Complicating matters further, his contract includes void years that could leave the Eagles facing roughly $20.5 million in dead cap if a new extension is not reached before the start of the 2026 league year.
With financial flexibility a growing priority for a roster built around Hurts, the Eagles must now decide whether to commit to another extension or explore a long-term reset at the position.
That is why Pitts becomes a strong candidate who could hit free agency if not re-signed by the Falcons before the league year starts.
Pitts had a productive 2025 NFL season with the Atlanta Falcons, recording 88 receptions for 928 receiving yards and 5 touchdowns across 17 games. Averaging 10.5 yards per catch, he ranked among the league’s most reliable tight ends as a pass-catching threat. His standout performance came in Week 15, when he posted 166 yards and 3 touchdowns against the Buccaneers.

Since being selected fourth overall in the 2021 NFL Draft, Pitts has emerged as one of the league’s most productive young tight ends, consistently serving as a primary receiving threat in Atlanta’s passing attack. In his five years of NFL career, Pitts has totaled 284 receptions for 3,579 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns across his NFL career with the Falcons through the end of the 2025 season.
With the Eagles’ offense showing inconsistency at times and Goedert approaching a contract crossroads, Philadelphia could soon be forced to reassess its long-term plans at tight end. If the front office ultimately decides against re-signing the veteran, Pitts would present an appealing option
