Eagles Insider Reveals Why Players, Coaches Are Extremely ‘Frustrated’ With Jalen Hurts Behind the Scenes

A Philadelphia Eagles insider reveals why players and coaches are extremely frustrated with Jalen Hurts despite the team getting the wins.

The Philadelphia Eagles are winning games and sit atop the NFC as the reigning Super Bowl champions. However, their 2025 NFL season has been a rollercoaster ride despite their success, especially for Jalen Hurts.

While the Eagles’ defense has been lights out, the offense has struggled at times, yet it has managed to win games. Nonetheless, trouble could be brewing within the team.

Eagles’ Jalen Hurts at the Center of the Team’s Issues

Following the recent reporting of The Athletic’s Dianna Russini that “multiple Eagles offensive players have grown frustrated with Jalen Hurts’ approach this season,” longtime Eagles reporter Derrick Gunn is now sharing a similar sentiment.

Gunn noted that while the Eagles have discussed offensive issues all season in film sessions and practice, Hurts tends to revert to his own style on game day.

“Those things that [get] dissected on film [and] during practice, those things that are talked about among the quarterback coach, the offensive coordinator, the head coach … it has been constantly discussed all season long,” Gunn said (h/t Bleeding Green Nation). “Yet, when they transition to the field in a football game, he plays ‘his game.’ Not the game the coaches want him to play. He plays ‘his game.'”

That’s why Dunn said, “It’s frustrating, in a lot of ways, to the coaching staff. And to the players. Extremely frustrating to the players. Because when they look at the film, the next day or a few days later, they see what’s available out there and what should’ve happened, and it didn’t happen, that’s frustrating to them as well.”

While Hurts, who ranks eighth in PFSN’s Quarterback Impact (QBi), prefers to let his play speak for itself, the Eagles’ offense has hit a troubling skid. They’ve failed to top 20 points in four of their last six games, and even the wins haven’t hidden the growing frustration inside the building. The unit’s rhythm has been off, the scripted drives have stalled, and the passing game hasn’t looked cohesive.

That disconnect was echoed by Gunn, who noted that Hurts’ cautious style is part of the problem. “A lot of quarterbacks are going to sling it… sometimes you just have to take that chance,” Gunn said, adding that Hurts often “pats the ball” and throws off the timing of the offense. With the rhythm disrupted and tensions rising, the Eagles are searching for answers before the situation spirals out of control.

Jalen Hurts Isn’t Going Anywhere

But all that talk doesn’t mean Philly wants a new guy under center all of a sudden. The frustration is palpable, but they want answers from the current crop. Not an overhaul.

“I’m just basically telling you there’s a lot of people in that organization that are frustrated with the quarterback situation right now,” Gunn said. “But the quarterback understands he has them over a barrel. This is almost Carson Wentz part two. They’re not going to eat this kind of money yet.”

Hurts signed a five-year, $255 million contract extension with the Eagles in April 2023, running through the 2028 season. Despite tension surrounding his play, don’t expect the Eagles to pull the plug, given the financial implications.
