The Philadelphia Eagles have traded defensive end Bryce Huff, and according to reports, the move is set to save the Super Bowl Champs over $15 million. By trading Huff to their NFC rivals, the Eagles have effectively declined his fully guaranteed option.

Eagles Save $15M In Bryce Huff Trade
As reported by Field Yates on X, “the cap specifics of this deal” are:
“The Eagles declined Bryce Huff’s $15.58M fully guaranteed option bonus, which turned it into base salary.”
The post continues: “Philadelphia then turned $9.05M of that base salary into a signing bonus, which allows San Francisco to take on the remaining money ($7.95M). In sum, the Eagles save $7.95M in cash and create north of $15M in 2025 cap space.”

The post finishes with, “San Francisco will inherit the final two years of Huff’s deal, owing him $7.95M in cap and cash for this year.”
The trade won’t be official until next week, after the June 1 deadline, but enough has been said once the Eagles restructured Huff’s contract this week. According to Adam Schefter, “He was set to make about $17 million fully guaranteed this season from Philadelphia, but the Eagles now will take on only $9.05 million in salary…”
The Eagles sent the pass rusher to San Francisco for a mid-round draft pick, and the move can be viewed as an unfortunate end to what was initially thought to be an upgrade over Haason Reddick. Huff signed a three-year, $51 million deal with the Eagles before the 2024 season.
Huff Will Reunite With Robert Saleh In San Francisco
It’s clear that GM Howie Roseman and the Eagles were ready to move on early, and Huff was about to enter the second year of his $51 million contract, getting a total of $16.75 million guaranteed. Now, he’s reuniting with his former head coach with the New York Jets, Robert Saleh, the 49ers’ defensive coordinator.
The move leaves the 49ers responsible for the $7.95 million that is due to Huff this season, but adding his skill set, opposite Nick Bosa, seems like it could be worth picking up the extra cash.
Unfortunately, Huff was either out of the rotation or injured during the majority of the 2024 season, having only started six games and played in 12 total. The pass rusher sat out for five weeks with a wrist injury, returned down the stretch, and was ultimately inactive in the Super Bowl.
