Eagles Analyst Slams ‘Smear Campaign’ Against A.J. Brown Over DeVonta Smith’s Contract

Eagles analyst Bill Colarulo vents frustration over an A.J. Brown 'smear campaign,' dismissing rumors he is jealous of DeVonta Smith.

While a lot of moves have happened this NFL offseason, such as trades and big free-agent signings, one of the biggest is off the field. There are reports that Philadelphia Eagles wideout A.J. Brown is being traded, and a recent wrinkle discussed by an Eagles analyst could change things.

Why A.J. Brown Is Being Discussed the Wrong Way

97.5 The Fanatic’s Bill Colarulo took to the air to vent his frustration about the way Brown is being discussed in the media world.

His first point was the way Brown acted on the Eagles. Colarulo states that he has heard that Brown is a great person and teammate to be around. Players and coaches alike think very highly of Brown. He says this goes back to when Brown arrived in Philly.

On X, Colarulo wrote, “The AJ Brown Smear Campaign Has Begun. #eagles #nfl #flyeaglesfly @BillColarulo.”

This could also be backed up by the fact that the New England Patriots want Brown. The Patriots’ head coach is Mike Vrabel, who coached Brown when both were with the Tennessee Titans. If Brown were a bad teammate or player, there is a chance Vrabel would not want him back on the team or in the organization.

There is a rumor saying that Brown was upset and jealous when wideout DeVonta Smith wanted a new contract. Colarulo states that this is ridiculous. The contract that Smith got was an extension to his rookie deal. So, unless the Eagles didn’t want Smith, they needed to extend him.

Colarulo also states that Brown and Smith are close friends. So, the idea of Brown being angry with Smith, someone close to him, just does not make sense.

Colarulo’s statement that a smear campaign against Brown has begun seems true. As for why, there are strong rumors that Brown wants out of Philly. While it is not official that Brown wants out, he has also not made a definitive statement about staying with the Eagles.

Brown has been an awesome player for the Eagles. So, when a great player wants to leave an organization, it makes sense that the people who are fans of that organization would be upset with that player.

There could also be a belief that if Brown were traded, fans would look for negatives, such as being a bad teammate, even if that were untrue, to justify trading him.

Colarulo’s frustration with the perception of Brown makes sense. Brown is coming off a down year. In a down year for Brown, that is still good enough for 21st and a B- grade according to PFSN NFL WR Impact Metric.

Since Brown is so good, it makes sense that Colarulo would want Brown discussed honestly. The Brown trade saga remains a big point in the NFL, and this is one piece about how it can be perceived the wrong way at times.
